Think it's going to happen?
Should it happen?
I don't like forcing people to use a particular weapon just because they picked a particular suit. It's at least befitting of the dogmatic Amarr that they'd want to be racial purists, but it undermines much of the appeal of this game in the first place.

I don't see it as forcing someone, the weapons would still work regardless, just a reward to those that use the weapons whit their suits, like the scrambler rifle we have today you don't HAVE to use an Amarr suit but it gives you bonuses if you do.
Why reward us for being generic footsoldiers? How about suit bonuses that benefit suits? Why should people lose out on a bonus just because they didn't want to put a long-range rifle on a suit that works best at close range?
Right now the Amarr Assault bonus works because it is unique, plus, if you want an Amarr suit that's combat viable, you can still pick the logi. It's a great balance. Making all the suits the same is a terrible idea.

Not forcing them to use anything, only giving perks to those whom do. Perks and bonuses should come with the suit and levels in the skill should modify the bonus. It is the best method for allowing expanding roles and suit types within a size.
It doesn't play to roles though. Right now some suits have roles because their unique bonuses compliment certain playstyles. The Minmatar, for example, encourages the use of non-conventional light weapons like Swarms and PlaCs, by backing them up with a more effective sidearm.

Come on man, this is an opportunity to create and/or maintain some real diversity in this game. There has to be a better reason to restrict our choices in the game than conformity to existing trends.

There has to be a better reason to restrict our choices in the game than conformity to existing trends. How does it restrict choices? If anything it broadens them. As of right now you can only get the perk that skill gives you when you wear the suit. 2 assault bonus and 2 logi. That is restricting diversity. How do we do anything different if there are only these two options?
This idea that factions should stick to their own gear serves no gameplay purpose. It restricts choices because rather than having all weapons, and finding a way to make a bonus work for your weapon, you are instead told that unless you adhere to some lore-based principle, you don't get any bonus.
In defending these racial bonuses, you only need answer one question: Why is it important to the game that a Gallente suit should use a Gallente weapon?

As of right now you can only get the perk that skill gives you when you wear the suit. 2 assault bonus and 2 logi. That is restricting diversity. How do we do anything different if there are only these two options? Because why would anyone run a different type of weapon then what their suit receives bonus's for? I am a caldari assault, if I get a bonus to rails, I should run rails. If I don't, then I am wasting a perfectly good bonus. And not only am I wasting the bonus, any other weapon I can use is not worth using, as I will never be as good with it as the suit with the bonus for that type of weapons. Why should I fight the way another faction does, when users of that faction's gear will always be better at? That would be setting me up to lose. You must consider this from a racial design stand point. An Empire manufacturing these suits like ship hulls would design it to best benefit its own technological inclinations. Now I agree, suits need bonuses that reflect the racial attributes of that class, in the case of assaults weapon benefits for those racial weapons. Its not just a matter of "its in EVE" its a matter of "it makes sense within our universe". Using what you have is just another part of New Eden. Ever wonder why you don't see Amarr Battleships with Auto Cannon or Missile?
I don't know if it's what you intended, but you just made quite a good case against these racially themed bonuses.
