Not the ones we have now. Instead the bonus is shared along every suit of a certain race. Minmatar- speed increase. Amarr- Laser Tech. (Move the AA suit bonus to this and have the AA bonus replaced with something that makes sense.) Caldari- Rail Tech or shields(?) Gallente- Armor or whatever suits them.
These skills wouldn't replace or remove any of the skills we have now. Just add a 3rd. I think a 3rd skill bonus type, based on race that effects the entire dropsuit within one race, would make choosing race gear to use seem more useful.

What do I think of them? They suck.
I think they should go STRAIGHT to their own weapons. Racially that is. Also think that many bonuses are useless, can't think of any ATM...

I also believe certain suits should get a *tiny* WP bonus. For example, Logis would get a bonus for nanohives, needles, reppers, scouts would get scanner, nova knives, etc.

I was thinking of:
Medium Gallente: -X% Movement Penalty Amarr: -X% CPU/PG for Armor Modules Minmatar: -X% CPU/PG for Shield Modules Caldari: +X% Shield Recharge Rate
Light Gallente: +X% Electronics Module Efficacy Amarr: ???? Minmatar: -X% Biotics Module CPU/PG Caldari: ????
Heavy Amarr: +X% Plate Efficacy Minmatar: ???? Gallente: ???? Caldari: ????
I tried to put a level into Amarr Commando once, but got a server notification saying "Why?"

My thoughts: You shouldn't get the Racial Bonus if the Dropsuit and Character are not a product of the same race. (i.e. A Gallente character shouldn't get the Racial Bonus when he/she uses a Caldari suit.) This has bothered the **** out of me since the bonuses were introduced.

Some streamlining would be nice, but each suit still needs to have a bonus that would be suit class specific and not racial.
Also, something to throw into the bunch is pirate factions (often sharing racial bonuses). If we ever get them.... |

Would make a type of sense, but would also screw over unwitting noobs even more (and plenty of vets who still use their first chars).
An overarching racial bonus would be a good thing, imo, as long as it maximizes potential benefit across all suits. The Amarr Assault bonus would be great to have on their logi, Commando, even heavy if their heavy weapon proves to be the purported heavy laser. The rest would likely not be as worthwhile across all suits, though, so would take some reworking. Furthermore, we'd need yet more bonuses for the individual racial variants to incentivize them over frames, so, as said, we're talking three potential bonuses for racial variants, which starts to feel a bit excessive and overwrought for my tastes, running the risk of either redundancy or OPness (read that one aloud). Maybe just replace the non-race-specific suit bonus, but that would wreck some people's fittings, I'm sure. |

Yeah i think some of the bonuses you get are just ridiculous or could be of something of more use. I think they attempted to streamline the coding for the bonuses as such is the case for the 5% increase to shield recharge for assault suits but the only suits that are really taking advantage of it is Caldari and Minmatar and just looks plain silly on a Gallente suit I believe that if you spec into a racial suit that you should have bonuses to the dropsuit itself or the racial battle approach and the other bonus to the racial weapon of choice or equipment in the case of logis
Examples but probably better ideas bonuses per level
Caldari: Suit bonus- 2% bonus to base shielding Weapon bonus-Rail Rifle tech reduce fitting cost CPU/PG reduced 2% OR heat build up reduction of 5% for hybrid rail based weapons(rail rifle in 1.7 and the sidearm should count as well when released)
Amarr: Suit bonus-2% bonus to base armor Weapon bonus- 5% reduction in heat build up for laser tech weapons OR 2% fitting cost CPU/PG for laser based weapons( laser rifle and scramble rifle)
Gallente: Dropsuit bonus-2% bonus to base armor Weapon bonus-I guess just lower fitting cost CPU/PG of hybrid blaster weapons by 2%
Minmatar: Dropsuit bonus- 2% bonus to base movement speed Weapon bonus- 2% reduction in CPU/PG for projectile tech weapons(Combat rifle,SMG, Mass Driver)
I am definitely not locked into these bonus but I do think they apply best for racial assault suits. I know Gallente would love the armor but odd that both Amarr and Gallente get the same bonus but both do use armor
as for Logi suits i think since all of them are about sustaining combat personnel. Logi self rep per level is fine to me and just have lower fitting cost for equipment across the board. Just make it mandatory to have an equipment slots filled to prevent Assault Logi.
Also given that assault suits are supposed to be doing the killing they should get bonuses to weapons or thier usage. Obviously we don't need more damage but perhaps using a weapon should be easily mounted on an assault suit leaving the spare CPU/PG for modules as the assault suit should be adapted to the user role or approach to combat.
I'm open to better suggestions so have at it.

I think the race bonuses need to be reworked. I think many of the skill bonuses are arbitrary, a few examples.
1. PLC specialization reduces PG usage, but the damn thing doesn't use PG so what is the point?
2. PLC skill reduces charge time but the charge time is only .6 seconds to start anyway.
3. Flaylock pistol specialization reduces PG but even the proto only uses 5PG and that is the most.
I am sure there are many weapons out there that have meaningless skills and this needs attention. Submit your tickets as I do.

If anything it should be an obscure bonus that has minor effects on a specific race flavored niche.
Hmmmm maybe something like giving the Minmatar a +5% defense against flux grenade because their tech is supposed to be more mechanical and less vulnerable to EMP. |

Here is my idea based on combat ideologies from each race:
Caldari Assault: +X%/level maximum (not optimal) range of hybrid weapons and +X%/level Shield recharge rate Caldari Logi: +X%/level to Nanite clusters effectiveness and nanite injectors restore X%/level shielding
Gallente Assault: +X%/level movement penalty for aiming down sights and +X%/level to armor repair modules (Make it more meaningful than the current Amarr logi bonus) Gallente Logi: +X%/level to nanite cluster amount and nanite injectors restore an addition 4% armor per level (proto injectors would restore 100% armor, advanced 70%, standard 50%) Gallente Scout: -X%/level scan profile and active scanner scan range/angle +X%/level (Possible role bonus: Enemies scanned by your active scanners are not notified of scan)
Minmatar Assault: +X%/level to projectile weapon clip size and +X%/level to maximum range Minmatar Logi: +X%/level to hacking and X%/level of repair tool armor repair rate also restores shields Minmatar Scout: Honestly, unless new content is release, I think the current bonuses are good (Possible role bonus: Does not alert an active scanner if they failed to scan them)
Amarr Assault: X%/level reduction in heat buildup in laser weapons and -X%/level CPU/PG of armor modules Amarr Logi: +X%/level health/spawn amount of uplinks and +X%/level range of repair tools Amarr Sentinel: Ideally it would give a bonus to laser heavy weapons and health, but as no laser heavy weapons exist it is hard to come up with meaningful bonuses Amarr Commando: As there is no other commando suit it is hard to give a meaningful bonus without being overly generic |

I'd enjoy some kind of racial bonuses. Actually I just want every single skill to have a passive bonus.
Skill up a heavy: Hp bonus to every suit of the same race. Light: same kind of speed bonus!
But I think it's a pipe dream. It would require too much of a change to current features.

Let me try again. If you, as a Caldari character, put on a Gallente suit you should not get the current racial bonus. You should get the racial bonus when your Caldari character is in a Caldari suit. Not Scout bonuses stacking on Logi bonuses, or whatever nonsense you derived from what I said.
I know this isn't what the OP was looking for, but: The Reload time that is inherent to Heavy suits should be changed to an Overheat Reduction. Reduce base HMG reload time by 25% (from 8 to 6 seconds). The Overheat Reduction would then allow HMG users to make use of the Ammo Capacity skill (without fizzling out halfway through the clip.)

I like the idea of giving the racial basic frame a bonus that applies to logistics and assault suits as well. I hate the fact that there is a bonus less ~400k SP sink before getting to a racial spec.
There should also be a general theme to the assault, logi, and frame bonuses.
Assaults should have bonuses to weapon handling (caldari should have a 10% per level reduction to charge/spool up time for rail weapons instead of their current bonus)
logi bonuses are fine as is. some have buffs to their ability to take damage as frontline support, and some have other more support oriented roles.
The frames should have smaller bonuses, but can be applied to both the logistics and the assault specs.

Snipped to the relevant portion.
Your idea is bad and you should feel bad for suggesting.
*walks away* *walks back*
You want more? Okay. Here it is: your idea would artificially restrict the immense amount of choice a player has in this game. This is something that EVE doesn't do, and I think 99% of people would agree is a good idea. Bonuses are based on SP investment, and not starting race.
This isn't WoW, where your race gives you certain attributes that bonus and penalize your character's choices. This is DUST 514, the groundpounder's side of New Eden, where you can choose whatever you want.
To quote an EVE trailer: "The Universe, is Yours".
For the record, this wouldn't actually do anything to my playstyle, as I only run Amarr suits on my Amarr character, but I think that this would absolutely hose newer characters who would inevitably not know this, and thus the tidal wave of QQ for respecs would overload the forums and destroy the Tranquility server and accelerate global warming and kill the African penguins.....
Okay, maybe not those last two, but you get the point. Your idea would do nothing but harm to the game's playerbase, ESPECIALLY newer players who would inevitably skill into a dropsuit that has bonuses that they find attractive- or even that they think the suit is the coolest looking thing every (for Amarr suits, this is obviously true and undeniable by anyone sane). |
