So I've had several matches in a row with Thale's snipers on both teams and I'm really getting sick of not being able to do anything about them.
We had people running along the enemy redline with proto scanners (the long range, 200m ones) and still couldn't find them. How do you deal with it?

Counter snipe, most snipers in this game are actually pretty bad and usually go for the same spots on the various maps so just visually check those and pop them in the head Of course this does all become more difficult if they are in a heavy suit but thats why we have forge guns with the added benefit of that 1k+ EHP meaning youll be able to take a shot while lining up on them
Im not drunk, the planet just happens to be especially wobbly today.

Had those too. How do you find them? It's a massive map, you know, and it doesn't help that half the time they don't even render because of the ridiculous zoom on their scopes enabling them to sit at 600m.

Manus Peak, Ashland, Line Harvest, Research Facility. I've run into ludicrous numbers of them.
On some of these maps our people running along the redline with scanners were getting killed at 300m.

Bring in a standard sniper, give him/her squad lead so he can select the attack order after spotting the thale. Change back to assault etc and pass back the squad lead and when you have the WP drop an OB on him.
Alternatives are after the target is lit FG Snipe or Rail Gun or finally counter the thale with another one. |

I've actually been trying to counter them with my own Thale's - but neither I nor my squadmates can actually find them.

Change to a cheap fitting, and try to determine the direction and distance of the guy killing you. Once you have the direction, you can stay behind cover, and with the distance you can figure out on the map where he is. Then do one of the many options listed by Xocoyol Zaraoul.

another method is to use a damaged modded charge snipers and try to go for that head shot after finding them. chances are if it's a thales, they are in the red line with a heavy suit packing over 1k eHP. i plan to use this when i see them

Line harvest, they usually on the mountains below the mcc, or along the redline on either side (I mean right on the redline like 1 step and the timer is going off)
Research facility (I think you are talking about that massive one with the craters in it) they, are usually in the mountain or camped on top of a structure.

I spent a couple of months running around as a sniper, got bored of Logi-ing all the time, and I was waiting until my assault fit was ready, to learn where some of the interesting places to snipe are. I can find them, at least some of the time, but half the time they are in crevices etc where you can not get line of sight.
However, when it comes to finding them put on a sniper fit, even the free one, go to their redline but off to the side and just move the sniper rifle around and they will just suddenly pop up, so long as you remember their name to make sure you have the right guy.
I have "spotted" thale users even when they are behind hills. It is almost like the sniper rifle has its own very long range scanner.
Hope this helps. |

As a Thale user I can say you will have a hard time countering me. The only thing that has got me is the occasional orbital and its a 50/50 chance. I watched orbitals fall in front of me and all I do is take it as a sign to find another place to rain death on the red dots. A good Thale user will be at least 400M from any target and most of the time I am 500+. I know how to use cover and whatever means around me to make me invisible and unable to be reached. If I hear or see a dropship approaching I will call in an LAV and drive further away. I have had LAV/scout suicidal players try and reach me. I know the time limit they have and all I do is run further away. They will die from redline exposure and I will survive and change my tactics. If you are dealing with an experienced sniper it will not matter where or what they are using they will make your life Hell. I use a KAAL to infiltrate and kill as many as I can before I am found. The cost of the death vs. what I have destroyed is well worth the risk. Nothing is better than to kill proto's and to know I just cost them 100K or more

To find such a rare and delicate creature as this, one generally must traverse fields of red although they can be found sitting in the clouds on the highest peaks or on large stationary floating masses.
Usually quite difficult to find, and with good reason, the Thales Sniper is a rare delicacy much adored by predators whom, once the Thales Sniper has announced its arrival to the area, have been known leave their current activies and hunt the TS in numbers.
Whilst elusive, this creature will invariably defecate up to three times for which it once again uses as sustenance. this dedication, whilst a strength, is also a weakness as the glowing faeces can be spotted by predators and alert them to the nest of the Thales Sniper
An intensely private creature, the Thales Sniper is one of New Eden's more potent silent killers. Some have been found to have developed the skills to somehow communicate with other predators, who in turn offer protection in the form of distraction for the TS. This form if Thales Sniper is a particularly effective killer. |

Very true but truly dedicated snipers are still pretty rare even among those who have the Sp invested to use a Thales. Ultimately the best way to counter a thale user is to learn the best places to snipe and then locate the specific location of that particular sniper. |

It's rare, but you will find people showing up as only a small suit colored blob. With enough time behind the scope you will start to catch something different as you check out likely spots. Of course, terrain and weather have a lot to do with visibility.
It is a lot easier to spot snipers if you've run one for a while. |

One can counter with a sniper rife, a dropship, a forge gun, or an orbital (and of course, map knowledge and a keen eye are necessary).
You know, the same things you can use to combat a forge gunner on a tower.
