I skilled into this for AV, which it is quite good for.Though, I have been using it as a regular assault suit and my impressions are that it sucks
No matter how much I tank, the suit seems to die faster than my tanked Gallante Scout.
I've tried shield tanking, again standard Gallante scout does it better.
Armor tanking, not that good when you have only two lows.
EWarfare, scouts and logis do it better.
I have tried to learn from how other people run their Minmatar Assault's on the field, but their seem to be few that last more than two seconds before I blinked and they are gone.
Can anybody point me in the right direction? Or is this suit destined to only ever be a decent AV suit?

Use speed to abuse strafing/cover, fast regen and dmg mods. You are supposed to kill one enemy and kite back when playing assault really. It is not for front line "tanking" as many believe, that role is for the heavy. Assaults are more skirmishers/flankers.
This is what the assault suit is for, atleast what I believe.
You only need 1 enhanced plate.
Probably you want to get an AScR or Combat Rifle in combination with a sidearm that complements it well, e.g. SMG for scrambler rifle, and scrambler pistol for Combat Rifle.
Also get Core Locus Grenades. Probably injector, repair&ammo hive or uplinks in the equipment slot.

Honestly depends on your play style. Minmatar assault works really well with a hit and run style...not a stand and trade DPS style.
I have two corp mates that make outstanding use of Minmatar assault suits and I expect they will be demonstrating Combat Rifle Beast Mode in a few weeks. Both of them essentially use constant motion and flanking to get the most out of the suits speed. They also make good use of shield regulators and energizes. Squishy, yes...but they recoup HP like Wolvwrine on crack.
My personal thought is that the Minmatar assault is the best scout suit in the game. Try playing it that way and see what you think. |

Try a complex shield extender, complex energizer, damage mod, ferro scale plate, and complex code breaker. Remotes, Ar, SMG, and core locus. It's a decent omni tanker, hits hard, hack/remote guy...really good set up to work outside objectives either solo or with a buddy.

Think of Minmatar assault as an assault/scout hybrid. It's not really good at slugging it out with the other racial assaults, but it's perfect for flanks and ganks. The only thing I don't like about the suit is that it's very CPU starved and you're going to be using an enhancer 90% of the time. Armor > shield imbalance doesn't really help its case either. But still, 5 high slots and a bonus that adds clip size to sidearms is more than worth it. This is what I've been using on an alt:
Assault MK.0 3 Complex Extender Enhanced Recharger (Energizer if you have the CPU) Complex Sidearm Damage Mod Basic Reactive Plate (or Complex Dampener) CPU Enhancer Ishukone SMG TT-3 Assault Scrambler Pistol M-1 Locus Grenade Compact Nanohive
CPU is always going to be a bit sparse no matter your fitting so it's good to get weapon operation skills maxed before you max circuitry since they're cheaper. Both the Ishukone and TT-3 are excellent, easy to fit, fun to use weapons that make damn good primaries. I usually try to flank with a squad and get the drop on people with the TT-3 and mop them up with the Ishukone. You could swap out the pistol for a core flaylock if you're short on PG and get about the same results with the added benefit of the extra rocket in the clip, just make sure you aim around the knee area for direct hits. Another option would be to do dual SMGs and unload 200 rounds of pain before having to reload. I'd probably switch out an extender for another damage mod for that if you don't have SMG proficiency 3. The basic reactive is nice to have for that extra bit of buffer for ScR rifles and lasers, but if people are running scanners, you could swap it for a complex dampener and give at least basic scanners the slip.
I tried to put a level into Amarr Commando once, but got a server notification saying "Why?"

I use a GEK-38 and Ishukone Assault SMG. It's OK, though, it only works on one target.

I play Minmatar Scout and have Minmatar assault suits.
Can confirm. Assault is better at scouting than the scout

The suit is extremely good against vehicles but is absolutely horrid against infantry. I also have complex damage mods just for this reason.

I have 23 minnie assault fittigs, 2 are snipers, one's Av, and 2 are plasma cannons.
The idea for maximum effectiveness is to make use of weapons that don't require you to be constantly in sight: Mass driver, plasma cannon, shotgun, proficiencied SMG, scrampistols.
Carry your own ammo and stay away from the group, try and get behind or above thw enemy. On paper it's just a caldari assault with half its armor rusted off. But in practice it's gosh darn near the most deadly thing i've met.

Anyways, I think I am going to just skill into the Gallante Basic Medium Frame. Only 400,000 SP to go.
