It's also called risk vs reward. As a sniper you risk very little by keeping yourself away from combat, so your reward is limited. At the range you are at, the only thing that can counter you is another sniper.
The heavy on the other hand has to risk a lot, yet still has a low wp potential (only able to earn kills and kill assists) similar to a sniper.
However, a good squad leader who backs up their squad overlooking the area they're defending, putting up defend orders, giving good communication, and pushing the enemy back...that's how the sniper roll should be played best.
OK, I'll accept that your "risk vs reward" point makes sense. But, logibro (a true logibro) isn't exactly on the front row either. He's a little behind supporting frontline troops. Yet, match to match, it's logis that earn most WP, and most SP. I mean, did you watch that video? The amount of WP he farms by keeping one guy alive?!?! It's beyond ridiculous.
Just today, someone posted on (yet another) "snipers suck" thread, that snipers are useless because "all they do is kill", and kills mean very little in terms of victory objectives. However, when a logi farms insane amounts of WP by preventing one guy from getting killed, he's what? Making a significant difference on the outcome of the battle?
And how about me removing all those uplinks and nanos from the field? A smartly placed uplink can have a significant impact on the outcome of the battle. However, reward for that is measly 5 WP. LOL.
You're right about one thing though... heavies are getting shafted even more than snipers.
And sorry for the rage. |

If I remember correctly we dominated the match from the beginning well until his squad started to rain hell on us by 8 orbitals, that and the support on the frontline enabled his team to hold A long enough that they nearly were able to win the match. In fact it was pure luck that we were able to clone them out.
Regarding the risk vs reward thing although he was slightly behind the direct frontline he puts himself in danger of incoming fire. If thats enough to justify the possible WP income is another story.
But I have to say well played :)
He played a fantastic game, there's no arguing about that.
My point is that, in a well balanced game, there's no way a logi could alone earn 3 orbitals to his team by dropping nanos/uplinks and shamelessly farming WP by repping one guy. The reward for repping alone is insanely high. Combine that with injectors, uplinks and nanos, and you get an ultimate WP farming machine.
That's broken game mechanics and it will be abused even more in the future. |
