So IGÇÖve been thinking. The Amarr Assault really brings out the beast in the SCR, turning an already good weapon into a beast of a gun that all should fear.
SoGǪ Why shouldnGÇÖt all weapons act like this? It achieves suit and weapon synergy, so Amarr use Amarr weapons, Gallente use Gallente weapons, Minmatar weapons use Minmatar and Caldari use Caldari weapons. Not only does it fit lore wise, but the suits and weapons are obviously designed with this in mind. For example Combat rifle has lowest CPU/PG of all rifles, but the Minnie Assault has the lowest CPU/PG of the assaults, so it balances out.
Secondly, it solves the Logi vs Assault problem without any nerfs to the Logis. An assault can take itGÇÖs racial weapon and elevate it above and beyond what it used to be, while Logis donGÇÖt have that, but instead get equipment.
Here is an example: EveryoneGÇÖs favorite/hated/ohgodwhy weapon, the AR.
The longer you hold the trigger in the 60 bullets mag, the less and less accurate your weapon will get. The weapon overheats and starts regulating itself instead of letting you push it beyond the limit (like the Amarr SCR) since Gallente value the lives of their soldiers and safety is first. There is already a visual effect of the weaponGÇÖs barrel overheating.
4.8 seconds is a full clip unload, so letGÇÖs say itGÇÖs 100%. I say that after 1.4 seconds (25% heating), the weapon should be useless past 30-40 meters, as it wouldnGÇÖt be able to hit anything past that.
A Gallente Assault would have a 25% bonus to that, pushing it to 2.4 seconds, or 50% of the total overheat.
Of course I pulled these numbers out of my ass as an example, donGÇÖt lynch me for them.
To compensate for that (and keep the weapon a true CQC weapon) I suggest giving it a very slight ROF increase, pushing it ahead in terms of DPS, which it wonGÇÖt be able to apply past 30-40 meters unless fired in very short bursts. (ThatGÇÖs SMG range for anyone wondering) Since this lowers the amount of time required to unload a clip, this makes it overheat even faster.

I dont get why almost every weapon in this game has to be a CQC gun, its a sci-fi game. Not bloody skyrim. I want to have the enemy to bring out lavs and vehicles because of suppressive machine gun fire and shoot people in the eye with the lasergun from 300 meters away. why even have scopes acog sights on the guns in this game.
Jesus christ, cavemen would win a battle against these clone mercenairies, because they can throw their spears and rocks further than most of these so-called futuristic weapons optimal ranges. |

Because that would be a bad mechanic. Bad because it would so closely tie certain weapons to certain suits. It's dumb if you wanna use a certain weapon you'd have to use a certain suit. Most likely it would not make sense to use gun x on a y-favouring suit. Any person doing so would get lol'd at and killed. And the other way around.
Why using gun x on a wrong suit would be such a bad move? because if gun x gets bonuses from suit x, the gungame surely has to be balanced according to the bonused gun.
So, any suit+gun combo bonus would set the new default for that gun, by terms of gameplay balance and suit selection. |

You're right it would a perfect balance for the assault vs. logi debacle +1+1+1

Just be glad they're not following everything literally. The AR would have the same range as the breach.

The lore thing does not explain these short ranged weapons. Maybe if my main character werent an heavy HMG i wouldnt care so much about the unbalanced weaponry in this game. And the HMG is minmatar, so why isnt it a long range weapon like it should be? Who am im a kidding. If the HMG functioned as an actual machine gun with superior firepower, the AR users would actually have to use their brains and their tools to survive on the battlefield instead of heavies now hiding in bunkers or guarding objectives like a stupid overgrown guard dog. |

Yeah, they screwed the pooch on the HMG, and now the heavy in general. It's the gun not the suit. Damn thing should have 35m optimal at the very least, and probably 15% less dispersion. It's a heavy weapon, it's supposed to outgun the AR by tossing up a wall of lead until you overheat or the guy(s) you're shooting at dies.

Because cavemen fear those smarter than themselves, and what they do not know. Take Snipers, for instance. The common AR Scrub hates snipers because AR Scrub can't be bothered to try to find where the three previous shots came from. Ar Scrub was busy holding his trigger finger and spinning around.
As for suits tying into weapons, it's not bad. Amarr and SCR is a great, if accidental example of suit bonuses working for guns. You can use the SCR just fine on other fits, but the Amarr use them best. The problem is balancing the rest of the guns to do so.
Another point, GODS I LOVE THE OVERHEAT IDEA FOR AR. Maybe not as extreme as it is here, but considering that it's used more like a SMG, as in to spray and pray, it would be nice to see some consequences for it. Encourage people to burst fire at longer ranges, instead of just holding the trigger and letting go of the stick, letting aimbot do all the work. |

It's good and all, until you realize that this is a game, and what CCP wants CCP gets. CCP said with their mighty banhammer in hand that we shall be limited to 100m with non snipers. (Rail Rifle)
The AR retains it's range of 70m, it just has to fire slower at that range otherwise it will just be too inaccurate to hit reliably.

Look at the SCR. My friend, Arkena Wyrnspire uses it with extreme effect on the Gal Logi, he pwns everything he sees, without any SCR bonus.
Me having Amarr Assault only amplifies it, but that doesn't mean that his SCR isn't effective compared to mine.

(And that's not counting absolute range, so you can hit at much longer, just do miniscule amounts of damage)
You will still be able to hit things with effect at 70m with my idea, just that you will have to fire in bursts and letting the weapon cool down.

You have to remember, you can't just look at 'favored' starship weapons in EVE and say 'this is what empire X uses'. Yes, there are trends towards specific weapon types, and many ships are optimized for native tech, but the world of small arms is very different from spaceborne ordinance, and there seem to even be misconceptions about those.
For example, the only reason it's called 'hybrid' weaponry in EVE is because both railguns and particle blasters use the same ammunition, and both use magnetism to fire their payloads. The Gallente are pioneers of BOTH these weapons, and use them extensively. Railguns are hardly a Caldari-only thing, as the Gallente Navy fields them on many of their ships. This is well documented in lore. The Caldari always employed missiles in naval combat, but railguns fit well into their fighting style because of their range, and had their own inherent advantages over missiles as well, so they became widely adopted.
On the ground is an even more complex situation. Every one of the races have used (and still use) traditional bullet+propellant projectile weapons. They are the most common firearm in New Eden and you'll find them made by nearly every major weapons manufacturer. They are simple, reliable, and with advanced propellant and materials are still very deadly.
Plasma charge-firing firearms are commonly used by the Gallente and Caldari, but also the Amarr.
Lasers are very Amarrian, and not really seen outside the empire, but are very inefficient weapons and have serious flaws like massive power consumption, so Projectile weapons are still used by Amarrian troops (as well as plasma weapons like I said above).
Projectile weapons are definitely favoured by the Minmatar, but Matari fighters use a lot of Gallentean weapons as well, dating back to when the Gallente supplied them with arms to rebel against the Amarrians 200 years ago. They also have incorporated Gallente technology into their own designs (Mass Driver is a great example: its a low powered railgun for throwing large caliber grenades).
And like was mentioned above, basically everyone uses missiles.
The point is, small arms in the EVE universe do not necessarily follow the "amarr = lasers, gallente = blasters' conventions that exist in EVE gameplay, and in fact contradict it frequently.
Think of it this way: every US Navy destroyer uses (basically) the same missiles and cannons, but not every US serviceman carries an M-16 |
