If the goal is to kill someone, you should always run or walk towards them to kill them. When you go towards the AR it just gets more deadly. Therefore it is OP.

Heck yeah! All the time! Well if they just made it so when YOU get closer to the AR it got LESS deadly, but if IT got closer to YOU it would just stay the same. They just need to design distance better. |

They're OP because they were balanced around unreliable hit detection. With each hit detection patch, the gun became more and more potent until we have this CoD level TTK. Be patient, CCP is going to re-balance everything, not just the AR. The only question is when.
I tried to put a level into Amarr Commando once, but got a server notification saying "Why?"

Yeah see they just need to work on how distance works in Dust. Like if they could make it so that player A was like 30m from player B, but player B was 60m from player A, then they could keep the weapon ranges how they are and wouldn't have to worry about weapon damage amount. Then if I had a scrambler rifle and you had an assault rifle, we could both be inside eachother's optimals, but I could be outside of YOUR optimal from my point of view. [u]Distance-icide[/u] |

Your goal is null when using snipers as a reference point to the goal. I will happily die to an AR Everytime over getting snipped from halfway across the map to just respond and have it happen again. And have no idea which direction it came from. |

Silly argument, war isn't fair and the AR is the main direct fire weapon of mercs. It's not OP, you just haven't figured out how to counter it. |

Actually I was playing the part of a blueberry. If you look at a lot of my posts, I try to make the opposite case I've made in the OP here that getting closer to the AR user is about the stupidest thing you can do on a normal basis. I can't wait for the new rifles. |

A real sniper doesn't provide battlefield intelligence, a real sniper leaves no intelligence left on the battlefield.

Having a joystick controller on an FPS without some kind of aim/acceleration assist would be like having a car with a single gear transmission where you have a single power band to control throttle. Swapping between a Boxer-4 and V-8 would be totally confusing and maintaining speed would be a *****.
Multi axis joysticks only control acceleration of your crosshairs on the screen. The 'dream' of 'raw input' is a pipe dream. Raw input with a controller isn't possible. You don't want raw input. |

AR;'s in public matches seem that way because they work half decently in all situations... Allowing you to be good at most engagements but the master at none.
Take AR's to planetary conquest... and they are very situational. Often in PC you are defending or pushing an objective giving you no control over the ranges in which you engage enemies on..
usually hailing way for a heavy or a shotgunner to run all the close range engagements as your mostly sitting in their optimal with an assault rifle, two players with similar skill and you will loose out with an AR every time or be forced to flee for your clone..
The long range fights with an AR in PC.. is pointless everyone has their best suit on and would have to really screw up staying exposed long enough to kill them long range... so u just end up injuring a bunch of people at that range...
in a competitive enviroment.. the AR under preforms... With a handful of exceptions... of AR users... you'll find the shotgunner and heavy class the real killers in DUST in it's most competitive form. |

Is this a joke? It's the most used weapon in all game modes. 1-40+ meter optimal, and up to 60+ meter effective with little to no recoili, no charge-up time, and no vertical dependency is no where near situational. They're out-DPSing Laser at range, and dropping Heavies with a HMG in CQC, and your saying they're masters at none? |
