X-posted from gen discussion:
One team: 7 members of Nyain San, 3 of Outer.Heaven, 1 Ancient Exile, 4 of Latino Killers Corp, and 1, count em, 1, random player. The other team: no two people from the same corp, with the vast majority of those being NPC corps. Photo proof is below, I'm not making this up for the sake of making a point: http://postimg.org/image/5uox4u9av/ http://postimg.org/image/gt06n0xw7/
I don't know if this happened by chance or through queue syncing, but either way, it's ruining the average player's Dust experience, and something has to be done about it. This is not acceptable matchmaking. This is in no way a fair fight. No matter how you want to compare these two teams (other than "herp derp it's 16v16"), be it total SP, number of squads, or gear meta level, they are not even mildly balanced. CCP, this is not acceptable, and this is why new players have an abysmal retention rate. They leave the academy after 2-3 battles, and get thrown into... this. Before anyone says "HTFU GET GUD", any FPS game will inevitably have a wide variety of skill levels of players. Good FPS games find a way to make the game fun and satisfying for all involved, whether they go 20/0 or 2/10. There's no game quite like Dust, that can inspire such an overwhelming feeling of futility, in the face of a truly impossible opponent.
I don't know how I can make it more clear that matchmaking needs work. IMHO it's now the #1 problem with this game, since mechanics are solid now. |

I've noticed it'll fill one team before it fills the other. I've been in matches with 16 on one side and zero on the other. |

CCP needs to get the matchmaker to match a number of squads with another number of squads.
If you want a semi fair fight, join a FW channel and squa their until CCP fixes lolMatchmaking again.

BTW, I agree wholeheartedly that this BS is the main issue with DUST that isn't balance based.
Now I think of it, Tiericide would be a very useful additive to improving the matchmaking along the guidelines I suggested in my post prior.

Adding tiers would be a great start. What fun can you have when the teams are so under balanced that you never have a chance to do anything. every game is a redline. i like to actually get a chance to kill enemies |

Mostly I think this could be fixed with a two-step matchmaking process. First, the matchmaker should grab the first 32 players who queue. Then, out of this set of 32, it should partition it into two teams, first splitting by squad (squad A goes to team 1, squad B goes to team 2, squad C goes to team 1, etc) and then splitting randoms in SP order (i.e. clone w/ 24 mil to team 1, clone w/ 22 mil to team 2, clone w/ 21 mil to team 1, etc). Now, this may not always result in perfectly even teams, but that's just fine- someone has to win, after all, but it would be a huge improvement over the current system.

Agree completely, sorting by SP would do a lot towards balancing games like this.
On a side note, an interesting post-game statistic would be average SP of both teams.

ThatGÇÖs one bad match. Scotty seems to have great difficulties of understanding what balanced teams mean.
And I agree that the matchmaking is atrocious and especially bad for new players. IGÇÖm not new and I would not want to be put against that team. Did you stay till the sad and bloody end?

I was in a very similar ambush match 2 nights ago waiting for my corporates to finish the battle they were in.
Start battle a little late: smart spawn... Die before I can take 2 steps.
Aha, an uplink a good ways away from the area I died.. Spawn in... Die before the environment even renders.
Another uplink, in a third location... Spawn in... Instant death, 2 tanks cut me down.
Smart spawn... Spawn into the EXACT SAME location, manage to blindly fling a grenade and run 3m before I die.
Defeat screen hits: AE, 0H, and I think it was Dust Brasil against me and no squads. My entire team managed 4 kills, battle lasted less than 200 seconds.
So, bottom line: Scotty is an idiot and "smart deploy" is false advertising to say the least.

I have everything to standard, with only 2 lvl 5 skills, but 8 mil SP.
Am I just screwed by the people who went deep?

My worst matchmaking experience was one of my best matches. Two proto squads against, well, just me... I ran like a maniac to reach the objective (Domination) first, planted some uplinks, and wondered where the rest of the team was. They never showed...
So, I reverted to redline sniping (no, I'm not sorry), firing at the ants and their vehicles, looking for me. They never found me and I managed to go 12-1, earning a massive amount of ISK.
But yeah, that's fine if you're a stealthy sniper with a Charge rifle and proto damage mods. Otherwise, you're screwed... |

Am I just screwed by the people who went deep? I think this doesn't apply to most people, as most of the SP goes in basic skills (speed, shields, etc.) anyways. And by skilling in so many weapons you're much more versatile, and can pick the weapon or suit that fits the situation best.
Tanks around? Take out your AV. In the city? Take your shotgun. Redlned? Be a sniper.

The problem is, I don't think CCP knows how to balance matchmaking.
It should not have anything to do with long-term stats such as:
Rather, recent performance:
- W/L from the past week?
- Past week WP/d
Along with that, there needs to be uniformity to how teams are formed. It should never ever put a squad and 10 randoms against a team of full randoms. It should never put two squads and 4 randoms against a team of a squad and 10. Get my point?
Furthermore, matchmaking should always be based entirely on performance and have nothing to do with gear unless there are to be meta only game modes. If you do x well in standard gear against everyone else using whatever they have then whatever. If your proto gear is giving you an edge then you will do better and will have an edge meaning you should be match-made against other people of a similar skill(not SP) level.
The matchmaking is seriously the biggest frustration in the game. If it isn't the factional warfare que syncs it's the lopsided pub matches. It seems the only game-mode worth playing is ambush and that's only because if the enemy team is stacked you have less time to take the ass pounding. The only people it doesn't effect is the people sucking CCP's weiner constantly buying aurm for neo suits, but I won't name any obvious names.
Nothing would make me love this game more than if every match was toe to toe, down to the last tick. It just makes victory that much more sweet.
