Its boring. Its boring because its repetitive and bland. Theres hardly any real excitement because the vehicles are boring when you use them and annoying as f*ck when the enemies use them(but that doesn't matter because its annoying in every game when enemies kill you, no matter what). Its bland because the graphics in battle feel sub par, the environment(buildings, map design, background, ground) is all repetitive and uninteresting(who wants to fight in the desert over & over WITH sh*tty graphics). Theres not really any motivation to kill or win, in other games you often unlock really cool things for your gun as your killing with it, and also many times get killstreaks(hard to get exciteing treats for doing well, vastly helping to keep the game fresh).
These are the exact reasons why dust is what it is. Its not balance, most other games are WAY more unbalanced. Its not bugs and glitches, many other popular games have far more glitches than we do atm. Its not lack of racial suits or connection to EVE, the average joe wouldn't consider that at all when he tries dust. Its not even the ludicrous grind times for unlocking things, we've proven by playing, that we can get over that.
Its because, its boring. And its boring for those reasons I mentioned. You know it, I know it, we all know it. CCP wants this game to succeed? Make it more exciting and immediately rewarding. Less bland. |

They should implement the MCC commander mode.
I'm surprised and outright perplexed why hey haven't.
It would alleviate a bunch of the boredom and give the game a more cohesive feel with a commander giving you waypoints, giving orbital bombardments where it's needed and making the game more than just this circular game of kiss chase.
I doubt CCP have the skill to implement it correctly though. |

As a 1.1m SP new player that has been playing for just over three weeks, I personally feel that the amount of content is acceptable, though I do not play for more than 10 hours a week. Perhaps if I played more I would feel differently.
As a longtime player intimately familiar with both FPS games and MMO's (though new to the EVE Universe), the innate balance of one class and loadout versus another isn't really too bad. However, there is a segue here to my next point...
Having people graduate the Battle Academy with less than 510k SP and then forcing them to fight against veterans with 30M SP is terrible, terrible game design. Now granted, I am still figuring out how to best allot the SP I have, but I'm quickly getting the hang of it. I rarely lose an engagement against someone with similar gear. Usually when I lose, it's against someone in a prototype suit with a prototype weapon.
Just yesterday I was sniping and my team was getting crushed. So I decided to sit back and do a minor poll of how many geared players were on the other team. I was using the Militia Gallente Medium dropsuit (saving for the Logi suit), Ishukone Sniper Rifle with a light damage mod. I could oneshot anyone in starter gear with a headshot. A heavy in a prototype suit? 5 shots. Roughly 20% armor left. At least 3 of those were headshots, he was standing still.
I feel like if CCP would create tiers of SP levels, the game would be much more balanced.
1. Extend the Battle Academy to 5000 WP. Skilled players will graduate in 2 games, less skilled players have more time against lesser geared players before getting curbstomped after they graduate.
2. Battle Academy graduates get dropped into a <1M SP bracket. Then subsequent brackets can look something like this: 1M - 3M 3M - 6M 6M - 10M 10M - 15M 15M - 20M 20M - 25M etc
Just my personal opinion. I'm sure other people have better ideas, but this would at least be an improvement. I've almost quit more than once when I would get dropped into games against corps full of 10M+ players while I have my whopping 750k - 1M SP. No, thanks.

Well, it is good to hear that patches 1.3 through 1.6 were successful. It will soon be time to switch focuses to adding content so the players don't get board so quickly, so I will have to agree with the OP on that. We should see this game become a lot more interesting in the coming year.

Well said, and a sentiment shared by many on here. Unfortunately, the number of users isn't really high enough to support tiered skill levels; that said, CCP is aware of the issues with Academy grads getting slaughtered and I fully expect them to find further ways of "sheltering" them from the vets a bit longer. My suggestion would be to have ambush as the first academy level (up to 7,000WP) followed by domination (14,000) and skirmish (20,000) to help bleed in the newest members, then making a push to have them join the teaching corps to further their training.
Life is killing me.

Funny how all the CPM puppets suddenly start posting after everyone notices that only Iron wolf has made any attempt to be remotely relevant in the last 3 months, you toss bags should just resign and let the player base choose who it actually wants to represent it, your about as big a farce as George Bush's 2nd term. |

I won't concede that the game "sucks". It doesn't. But it does have a ways to go. I am patient, so I can wait for all the 'pie-in-the-sky' ideas that CCP has written down on various cocktail napkins and stored in a shoebox.
But I will agree that the game certainly lacks variety. And that is now bordering on inexcusable. I have been playing Dust pretty consistently since June 2012. That is 18 months of playing a single objective-based gamemode. Sorry...Ambush has no objective and Domination does not count as a different mode.
This is pretty weak, even for a free-to-play title. I understand a lot of resources have gone into getting the core mechanics straightened out. But when you (CCP) realized that the game was going to require the fine tooth comb treatment to get things sorted, you should have made a consorted effort to beef up your content team.
I want EVE/Dust integration as much as the next player, but not if that means we don't get anything fresh for over a year. You want any new addition to have 'meaning'. I get it. But most of us just want a fun game to play. So bring on the new modes and figure out how to give them meaning down the road....when you have figured out how to optimize this hardware or moved on to next-gen.

PvE is becoming increasingly crucial to player retention and new player introduction.
"Sometime SoonGäó, before 2015..." vagueness from an aspect of the game that's been in development for more than a year is kinda weak. What's the harm in giving us your most pessimistic, ballpark release date (month, season, quarter, etc.) and then maybe coming through a little early? Is confidence a rare commodity in Iceland?

Have to agree here MAG ran out of forward momentum 6 months after release but that didn't stop me from playing it daily for three years. I would add to that the element of being committed to a PMC (character persistence) tempered with the light at the end of the tunnel to vet along with the ability to respec after x amount of time helped stretch that time out tremendously. It is possible to keep persistent character development and offer change at a cost. |

Huh,
I have a bit of fun.
Sure, the objective and maps are kinda repetitive, but the way the players react to your actions change a fair bit from game to game. There are like, 3 routes of attack on each obby.
Maybe its just FW?

I find the game fine. Not great not bad. It's fine. I do agree with the levels. I mean they all look the same. With so many planets you would think they're would be more levels. Maybe a forest or a lake or anything besides the brown and Grey. Not sure if there is this or not but maybe a search engine that makes matches more fair. Newbs against Newbs. Vets vs vets. Then you wouldn't have such a problem with people saying nerf this and that cuz a newb killed me with an AR. Or a newb emptying a clip into a vet just to have him turn around and one shot kill.

THEAMAZING POTHEAD wrote:Its boring.
Less bland.
How old are you?

This is an important point but we're getting into the realm of art, not science.
Core mechanics are now functional(but not stellar) and not obviously destroying the game experience, especially important for new players.
PVE is important to DUST but is the answer to a different question/issue than the OP is pointing out.
Imo the OP is talking about the moment-to-moment(take that, david reid, mwahhaha) gameplay in PVP.
Perhaps there is a fledgling science to this that FPS PVP game designers grok, but i think in the context of DUST CCP is going to have to re-invent the wheel and figure it out for themselves. Reason being that DUST is sufficiently different from other shooters and also that the lessons learned in this process will need to be applied to many different maps/environments(planets, ships, moons!) with varying gravities, line-of-sight, etc.
For DUST, this is going to be a trial-and-error process. Look at what we've already learned from the fabled Skirmish 1.0, or some of the improvements evident in the new megaterrains/installations.
But, and its a big but, it will be impossible for gameplay design to succeed or fail so long as we do not have some kind of effective matchmaking operating. Anything game design produces will be rendered largely irrelevant by unbalanced matchmaking, even for measurement and testing purposes. Protostomping will effectively swamp the signals that the game desiners need to be looking at. |

Its sucks because it is trying to be a MMO FPS and not succeeding at either one of them.
DUST514 I love the dream but not the current product.

I live in Nebraska and I don't get it, so I guess that's the punchline. But Vrain Matari is right, bring back Skirmish 1.0 (Rush match), or maybe rocket APCs for MCC boarding parties + heavy's to defend the corridors + remote explosives to bring down the MCC from the iside = fun! |
