There aint no absolute recipe for a fun FPS.
Funny how all the CPM puppets suddenly start posting after everyone notices that only Iron wolf has made any attempt to be remotely relevant in the last 3 months, you toss bags should just resign and let the player base choose who it actually wants to represent it, your about as big a farce as George Bush's 2nd term. |

I won't concede that the game "sucks". It doesn't. But it does have a ways to go. I am patient, so I can wait for all the 'pie-in-the-sky' ideas that CCP has written down on various cocktail napkins and stored in a shoebox.
But I will agree that the game certainly lacks variety. And that is now bordering on inexcusable. I have been playing Dust pretty consistently since June 2012. That is 18 months of playing a single objective-based gamemode. Sorry...Ambush has no objective and Domination does not count as a different mode.
This is pretty weak, even for a free-to-play title. I understand a lot of resources have gone into getting the core mechanics straightened out. But when you (CCP) realized that the game was going to require the fine tooth comb treatment to get things sorted, you should have made a consorted effort to beef up your content team.
I want EVE/Dust integration as much as the next player, but not if that means we don't get anything fresh for over a year. You want any new addition to have 'meaning'. I get it. But most of us just want a fun game to play. So bring on the new modes and figure out how to give them meaning down the road....when you have figured out how to optimize this hardware or moved on to next-gen.

PvE is becoming increasingly crucial to player retention and new player introduction.
"Sometime SoonGäó, before 2015..." vagueness from an aspect of the game that's been in development for more than a year is kinda weak. What's the harm in giving us your most pessimistic, ballpark release date (month, season, quarter, etc.) and then maybe coming through a little early? Is confidence a rare commodity in Iceland?

Have to agree here MAG ran out of forward momentum 6 months after release but that didn't stop me from playing it daily for three years. I would add to that the element of being committed to a PMC (character persistence) tempered with the light at the end of the tunnel to vet along with the ability to respec after x amount of time helped stretch that time out tremendously. It is possible to keep persistent character development and offer change at a cost. |

Huh,
I have a bit of fun.
Sure, the objective and maps are kinda repetitive, but the way the players react to your actions change a fair bit from game to game. There are like, 3 routes of attack on each obby.
Maybe its just FW?

I find the game fine. Not great not bad. It's fine. I do agree with the levels. I mean they all look the same. With so many planets you would think they're would be more levels. Maybe a forest or a lake or anything besides the brown and Grey. Not sure if there is this or not but maybe a search engine that makes matches more fair. Newbs against Newbs. Vets vs vets. Then you wouldn't have such a problem with people saying nerf this and that cuz a newb killed me with an AR. Or a newb emptying a clip into a vet just to have him turn around and one shot kill.

This is an important point but we're getting into the realm of art, not science.
Core mechanics are now functional(but not stellar) and not obviously destroying the game experience, especially important for new players.
PVE is important to DUST but is the answer to a different question/issue than the OP is pointing out.
Imo the OP is talking about the moment-to-moment(take that, david reid, mwahhaha) gameplay in PVP.
Perhaps there is a fledgling science to this that FPS PVP game designers grok, but i think in the context of DUST CCP is going to have to re-invent the wheel and figure it out for themselves. Reason being that DUST is sufficiently different from other shooters and also that the lessons learned in this process will need to be applied to many different maps/environments(planets, ships, moons!) with varying gravities, line-of-sight, etc.
For DUST, this is going to be a trial-and-error process. Look at what we've already learned from the fabled Skirmish 1.0, or some of the improvements evident in the new megaterrains/installations.
But, and its a big but, it will be impossible for gameplay design to succeed or fail so long as we do not have some kind of effective matchmaking operating. Anything game design produces will be rendered largely irrelevant by unbalanced matchmaking, even for measurement and testing purposes. Protostomping will effectively swamp the signals that the game desiners need to be looking at. |

I live in Nebraska and I don't get it, so I guess that's the punchline. But Vrain Matari is right, bring back Skirmish 1.0 (Rush match), or maybe rocket APCs for MCC boarding parties + heavy's to defend the corridors + remote explosives to bring down the MCC from the iside = fun! |
