Congrats CCP on getting hit detection and aim assist working. Rifles are killing viciously. It doesn't matter which ones, they're vicious and as would be expected on these forums, the whining has commenced.
I don't cater to whining much, and I try not to do a whole lot of it myself, but it does make sense to pay attention the underlying issues.
As I understand it, a lot of tweaks were made to the game to compensate for the power of rifles. Maybe those need to be reconsidered, maybe not. That's not the point I'm aiming at making.
What a lot of players may be missing is that this game needs versatile weapons which are fairly effective at close and long range by design. Rifles fit that role very well at this point. The cryhards are screaming, "too well."
Every time the game starts working well, there's a backlash by folks who don't want to adapt, and it's fair to say that a lot of people who have quit Dust are gone because they are tired of skilling into an item only to have it nerfed. That's definitely understandable. I heard a point from a very skilled player recently which makes more sense than other solutions I've read or heard.
It's not neccessary to tweak or nerf or subtract from the game settings so frequently. In the light of the recent 1.6 improvements, nerfing any of the weapons will only prolong the problem. They (most, at least) work really well now. If the goal is to have a game that requires thinking and doesn't mow people down instantly, then use a strategy that has proven successful in this games past. Buff all the suits armor across the board to accommodate the higher damage that weapons are generating. It could be argued that a one to three percent (I dont know the best number) reduction to all weapon damage across the board would accomplish the same thing, but from my outside perspective that would have a lot more risk of breaking other game elements.
It really could be that simple. Make everybodies suit take a little more damage so that survivability is a litte higher and you might just hit the mark you have apparently been striving for since I started to play the game. You'll have a game which requires strategy and thought to do well in, and doesn't allow people to dominate by twitching for the instant kill. The constant quest to make weapons work might then be over and allow you to focus on game growth instead of repairs.
Just my two cents. |

That's a lot of shallow for AR hate too. Just saying. |

Good, 'cause what's not said directly in the OP , but should be obvious, is that I think all the aim assisted weapons are killing too fast right now, not just AR's. It hurts the game. Writing off the post as AR love is missing the point. I prefer other weapons, and skilled into the AR when I realized that CCP has essentially communicated to the player base that AR types of weapons are essential to playing this game.
But, rather than cry about it or declare my lack of higher thought processes like some prefer to do, I think there is at least one good solution worth offering.
A little reading comprehension goes a long way.

Trolls win this one apparently, either incapable or unwilling to actually read and understand the post before boxing it up into their small, emotional cubby holes.
This post is not about how great the AR is, it's about fact that they are working really well now but killing too quickly as a result, offering an actual, potential solution.
I should have known better though, so I'll take this one on the chin. Thankfully, there are apparently a few readers who took the time to get the point.
I love the one about how it took the genius ten minutes to try and read it. That's rich.

He's saying "buff rather than nerf" which is a sentiment I agree with usually. I just think in this instance lowering the damage of all weapons the 10% that they increased them a couple patches or so ago. And its not nerfing anyone if it happens across the board. But whether you decrease weapon damage 10% or increase armor 10% its all pretty much the same.
He didn't read past the one sentence that caused his PMS to flare up. |
