You could be. I once squadded with a 9 million SP player from a recognizable corp that played an assault, did not AFK and still scored multiple 0 WP games in a row. Of course, he is no longer with that recognizable corp. But still!
I think I could spawn in, throw 3 grenades at random and the stand still until I was killed and score at least 1 assist most games, this guy couldn't, clearly he was a newberry regardless of SP. |

Tell this potential newberry to go and walk through the enemy's redline until he gets to the safe side.
Alternatively, tell him to spawn a tank and shoot at the enemy MCC to make the game go faster.
If he listens to you or is already doing the latter... |

Being a newberry is more defined by your actions than your sp. If you have 30 million sp from passive alone you are still technically a newberry.

Yesterday I died at the beginning of the battle because CCP thought it a good idea to place a bottomless pit next to the CRU at our base spawn. I spawn in, turn around and find nothing but air underneath me.
I have also chucked a cooked grenade at an enemy only for it to bounce from an invisible wall and hit me straight in my face. I must admit, I have overcooked a grenade too, very embarrassing.
If I jump from the MCC I generally press X and then ready the "call vehicle". I once did this backwards... I started to call a vehicle and noticed too late I didin't press X first 
Is it suicide if the battery on my controller runs out and I thought it was some weird lag and I stood still in the middle of the battle field and got sniped?
