Been flying a lot of dropships lately, Shield Logi and Shield Assault. Loving them, well parts of them. Flying is fun, once you get the hang of it. Seems like in this recent patch the camera changed, again, and they seem VERY stable. That is good and bad in itself. Of course they are far to easy to shoot down, but this is known.
My logi, it's cool when people actually spawn in it, but that doesn't happen too often. Biggest defense it seems to me are your gunners, which don't always amount to much! Oh and much higher eHP.
My biff though is with my assault and the first person viewing, and the 3rd person view.
In 3rd person, your aim is obstructed by your dropship when trying to shoot things directly below you, so it's a spray and pray with small missiles. Even larger targets are hard to hit simply because you can't see what you are shooting at.
So this is where I feel first person should be used. But first person centers your aim forward, and does not allow you to look down. So you need to be nearly level with what you are shooting at, as well as tilted slightly forward. Flying though is HARD in FPV, as you vision of what is around you is very limited. So what I would propose.
Change the control scheme for first person view.
I don't need to fly when I switch to first person view, I need to shoot. When I need to pull out, I'll switch back to my outside camera.
I feel the right stick, rather then controlling view along the X axis( Left and Right ) should focus on your gun position. So with the right stick, when you switch to first person, should only move your targeting crosshair. If you need the full mobility and view, then switch back out to 3rd person and fly. First person view should be there for aiming purposes.
I would even be cool with leaving it as it is now, giving more gun control. IE, allowing me to aim and look down and up, and simply turning the whole dropship to let me look left and right.
(Pretty sure you can't aim down in first person, was trying it last night at least and noticed I couldn't look down. Could be wrong so correct me if I am, still fairly new with dropships)
