Yep. It seems so obvious to split the squads between the teams, but no... |

This has nothing to do with that. The matchmaking algorithm should still evenly distribute squads between teams. I assume you're a super cool full-squad player- wouldn't you rather fight a real fight instead of just redlining 16 randoms? |

The matchmaking algorithm should still evenly distribute squads between teams. I assume you're a super cool full-squad player- wouldn't you rather fight a real fight instead of just redlining 16 randoms? I am super cool with just logging in and playing. Sometimes I squad, sometimes not. I play to my strengths and nothing hurts my ego. I have about 16m in SP and about I take a beating sometimes, but hey that's life. Match making could be better. They could let us pick our matches, but they don't. They don't wanna do that. CCP believes that match making can't get better. Perhaps someday they will reform it, but not for reasons like this guy is giving. If you say "I am screwed if I solo and I don't have fun as solo player." CCP won't see this as a viable reason, frankly neither do I. A good reason for fixing match making is "I have 2M SP and I keep encountering people in proto gear, WTF". So if you say that then CCP will look into, and that means they might mess around with that when they have free time.
Last I checked, a significant portion of the player base, possibly the majority, runs solo the majority of the time. The solo experience is a nontrivial part of Dust, and one that CCP would be wise to pay at least a minor amount of attention to.
This issue affects both solo and squad players. I'm not asking CCP to cater to solo players- down that path lies madness and terrible game design. The issue isn't that there aren't enough squads joining games, the issue is that the matchmaker will fill one side entirely with squads, if it can, and put the vast majority of the unsquadded players on the other team. Teamwork is a critical aspect of this game, and building teams in this way practically guarantees one side a win. This is less fun for both sides- I, and I assume pretty much everyone, gets bored when they redline the enemy 3 minutes in, and gets bored of being redlined. Close battles are the most fun and exciting, and for battles to even have some semblance of balance, squads need to be divided evenly between the teams.
Do you really believe that, when two 6-man elite corporation squads join a match, they should be put on the same team? Particularly if they are the only squads in the match?

FFS, that's not a fix and not at all related to the problem we're talking about. Doing that will just put me on the other side of the equation, stomping all over randoms as my squad is put on the same team as super corp squads. See my earlier post: all I want is an even distribution of squads between the two sides. This will be more fun for everyone involved. |
