test results versus installations , supply depo, etc.
basic laser 84m elm laser 84m viziam laser 84m
and to rub salt in the wound they all do 17 per bullet .
why the SAME range ??
its a PROTOTYPE weapon and it has the SAME range as a basic laser 84m ......lol!!!!!!!! |

You can hold the trigger for moderately longer. I think like one second longer. For increased skill investment, cost per weapon, fitting requirements, and feedback damage is HIGHER (which you shouldn't be getting anyways but still) you gain one second longer to shoot.
Of course your corpse is already riddled with AR hybrid plasma round holes before you get that far :/ |

Yeah, unless they seriously rework the range (longer and wider optimal with less severe drop off, with improvements as you go up tiers, IMO) I'm very afraid I'm going to have to give up my LR... again.

its a PROTOTYPE weapon and it has the SAME range as a basic laser 84m ......lol!!!!!!!! yeah i did this the other day when ccp wouldnt jus post the chart simple fact of the matter is proto lr is worthless ..elm..is only worth is if your gun game isnt great...the only lr that should be used is the standard...but awesomely when the stnd is fitted to proto suits...it leaves allot of room free for sexy dmg and hp stacks |

The LR right now is... kind of worthless as it is. Not saying it's bad- it's fantastic when you get people into the range. But...
Plasma Rifle. It has better range already and an apparently higher damage output at that range.
AR 514... sigh.

Laser Rifle definitely needs a buff but there are also people that don't realize that it's a Support/Defense weapon and not a full assault weapon.
The amount of people I see in game going around with a Laser Rifle on the frontlines is laughably pathetic then I see some of the same people crying on the forums about the laser rifle, even though it needs a huge buff I find their complaints void by their stupidity.
Think of the Scrambler rifle as the Assault weapon of the Amarr and the Laser Rifle as the suppresive fire support weapon for Amarr.
Nonetheless, Laser Rifle needs its range increased.
I may have deleted DUST but I still care deeply about this game.

Pretty much this
I have a Templar Laser rifle and really i dont need to increase much on it, i can use an Amarr assault suit with it and get cooldown that way as well as it primary skill but all i need to get the prof really and that will make my basic laser rifle better than a proto laser
What is the difference between the basic and proto versions apart from when it overheats it takes more health, the damage and range are the same and anything skill wise applies to all the lasers |

Yep. Laser Rifle is definitely a SP weapon. Scrambler Pistol is similar, though that beastly headshot bonus gives it the starting advantage. The LR's optimal range could use a bit of adjusting, but I can arguably dismiss this idea due to the fact I'm comparing it to a fully auto sniper rifle. You know the one. One of these need a range adjusting.

The LR's range dropoff is ludicrous. A Duvolle AR is more effective at 95m than a LR, and that's just wrong. |

Its quite deadly in its optimal range. Rarely do you have a chance to escape from a laser user in their optimal range. Here is to hoping the different crystals they announced some time back give you an option on ranges/damages.
Lore on lasers in eve is that they have a narrow "optimal" This is balanced by being able to quickly change ammo/crystals. So I am unsure on what CCP will do with range buffs.
Gal tech in this game is totally wrong though. Winmitar weapons usually have the wider optimal.
Agree on needing difference in tiers. No reason to utilize proto variant.

IMO: Laser should have its current minimum range, but a 150m maximum. Then it'd be useful.
Also folks: the fact that the Viziam overheats slower is how it gets more damage, even if the stat still says 17. The damage increases exponentially as you get the heat up, and it has a higher maximum than the basic LR.
That said, you can get a similar effect by using the Amarr Assault for much less isk...

Mass Drivers suck without proficiency skills Swarm Launchers suck without proficiency skills SCR Pistols and SMGs are also "not awesome outta the box" and need proficiency skills to compete with primary weapons (unless you go for headshots)
I think all guns should be "ok" until you get proficiency lvl 3
