Merc Medal System
We don't have Trophy's in Dust but would it be cool to have a Merc Medal System in game and on the forums under or on your profile picture?
GÇó Closed beta player - black medal GÇó Open beta player - blue medal
GÇó 1000-2500-5000-GǪKills - Bloodred medal with ribbon I,II,III,IV GÇó 1000-2500-5000-GǪrevives - Medicinal green medal with ribbon I,II,III,IV GÇó Hours played - Mountain dew green with ribbon I,II,III,IV
GÇó Forum Contributions - White Medal GÇó Squad leader Ace - Yellow Medal GÇó ISK given ( philanthropist ) - platinum medal and something something for gold
And so Forth for:
Tank Titan, Dropship Duke, Hack-a-Lot, Logi love, Nova knife Naughtiness, maybe even racial stuff. But there no doubt will be better additions
Might be nice to add to the whole merc thing to have something to show for your accomplishments throughout Dust on the forums and in game.
Your thoughts,

Well it would just be nice if we could issue medals like in EVE, though Dust side people would spam the medal function to give their corpies medals which mean nothing.
I believe I have been issued two medals by PIE, one for defensive actions at Arzad, and one for our rapid conquest of the Minmatar during the fortnight leading up to the FW event.
Those actually mean something.... I still need to issue those medals to those other loyalists who supported us.

I don't think mercs deserve 'medals, in the official sense of the word. Medals go to mortal soldiers who fight, risking their lives at every turn, for the victory of their faction, for the safety of their families.
We don't have those connections. But besides that point, I agree that I'd like some award to acknowledge my achievements. But now I can't think of anything else to call it. Battlefield achievements?
How do we describe the achievements of an immortal clone? Things which form the timeline of this clone's active term. Hmm...

How do we describe the achievements of an immortal clone? Things which form the timeline of this clone's active term. Hmm... But Immortal cloning tech is no guarantee that you will not die. Technical failure of implants, implant being destroyed before death, etc. There is every chance that a mercenary can and could be killed in combat, however unlikely that is.
Medals are, as I see them a means for corporations, especially in my case a loyalist corporation of showing devotion, skill at arms, and more.
I do not think that because we attach the term mercenary to ourselves that we are not eligible for medals. It is a sand box, I am not a mercenary, I am a loyalist and a soldier of the empire.
As for links to the Amarrian authorities, Ministry of War, Ministry of Internal Order, etc. PIE has been mentioned directly in cannon as being given medals of the highest honour by the Empire. I have the connections I assure you.

Capsuleers do it all the time, they are effectively the same as us, immortal in some sense and as mercenary and fickle, if not more so than we will ever be.
PIE may well be a paramilitary organisation that does not mean we do not have the same traditions as the organisations we are mirroring.

I see medals as symbols of the gratitude and the respect the giver and all he or she represents, towards the receiver. This idea in particular isn't exactly full of such meaning, hence why I questioned the word 'medal' in particular. In this regard I agree medals for devotion are acceptable, but not exactly for skill at arms. And in terms of this thread, it's all about skill at arms and celebrating battlefield achievements, which is why I prefer the switch to badges. Medals aren't meant to celebrate those kinds of achievements, IMO.
And on the off chance a clone is killed absolutely, by who will his medals, or anything, be remembered? The clones he fought with? The mortals soldiers who fear us? The rest of the universe 'on the sidelines' who don't understand us? A family? Not every clone will have connections like your Templar and his Satja. Even then the connection is isolated. A girlfriend, a wife a child. A medal is more than that. It, like the American MoH, can represent the gratitude of entire countries. But how will you be remembered by those who didn't know you, in the whole wide world or in this case, a whole universe?
Medals keep the actions of a person in perspective even after the awarded is dead and gone, but from what perspective can we view an immortal clone, killing for a living? Will a medal remind those he killed and harmed that it was for faith, or that the system is truly corrupt in that everyone is the good guy to themselves?
And I knew the only people who would've argued this point was going to be PIE.

So you put a medal/badge/achievement on a consciousness? that is way beyond what i was talking about, but i am not as well versed in all things EVE as you are, and i am impressed, this is interesting stuff now.

Yes but these ribbons and medal should be REALLY hard to get.
Kills Ribbon : 8000 / 16000 / 32000
Help Actions (repair / revives / drop uplinks / scan) : 12000 / 24000 / 48000
etcetc...
Should be reserved to REAL Vet. |

I don't see why not. It would be a good way to encourage players to keep playing AND to do there best. If it takes too long to get a single medal then some players may see that as just another grind.

Hahah it should be me apologising. We did go a little off-topic.
But anyway, still agree this would be fun to have. Just worried CCP has so much to do we won't see these kind of features for a while.

No, no please continue, you and true.. made my topic more interesting for me, but i really think a badge system would be another group of devs than the ones working on core mechanics, FW, PC and stuff. More likely people like CCP Rarara and his band

Your signature is mighty big.
Also you are right, there should be minor medals/badges for people that are new, but the really big ones should be for the ones that supported this game from the start/fly a lot of dropships and die/ and so forth.
A lot of people are starting every forum post with; I was here since closed beta... With Battlefield badges that's no longer a problem. Everybody knows you are a vet and not to **** with you. Problem solved and E-Peen shown.

Noobs will get title and will make them fight again and again to get the others. While us will try to get "Honorific title" Pretty cool huh ?
And Service stars will make us play even more in factionnal Warfare to get/be awarded by Reductions on the LP store.

Mon dieu! Very nice, could be a very fine addition to the Battlefield Badges, Stars and titles. All these will make Killscreens a lot more interesting, also you have a better idea of what you are up against and playing with when looking at the rosters.
