Just wanted to give you guys a heads up. I just bought three new Sony ps3 controllers online from three different sellers. All three where REALLY good FAKES. China has stepped it up. The packages/controllers are identical to the real thing. Even the bar codes were the same. Color code was there. Wanna know what gave it away? The charge plug was off centered with a gap around it. oops. Also the plastic edges were rough/sharp. So, ran some test. An OEM controller weighs over 5 ounces, these guys are at 4. Open it up and the differences will amaze you. Here's the problem: These china controllers are DANGEROUS. There have been numerous reports about them EXPLODING in peoples hands. Links can be found here: https://www.google.com/#q=ps3+controller+exploded Saving a few bucks is not worth serious injury. Also Sony has begun making them inoperable on all ps3 systems. On a personal note: I just went 23/0 with a china troller. lol The sticks are so tight. No more dead spots....YAY I have included a link to report fakes to Sony. They may contact you back. http://thecounterfeitreport.com/product_details.php?product_id=382 Play safe merc's!

I bought one of these once.
I can only use it for games like Final Fantasy or for watching netflix. The sticks are super sensitive and don't work well for me when playing shooters.

**** man.
It's amazing how clever these rip-offs are becoming. Take a hard look at the LifeProof (tm) smartphone covers for the iPhone and Samsung Galaxies. Those things are becoming extremely convincing.

Probably heat build up due to feedback due to crappy electronics/wiring.
I looked for videos of exploding controllers and could not find any..
Then I found this which made it worth it : http://youtu.be/lM7XQN92k1k

jenza aranda wrote:holy ****... I was going to say whats the probem if they work but... how the **** does a controller explode... Probably the battery. I remember a few years ago there was a problem with knock-off cell phone batteries exploding.
Snopes.com wrote:Worldwide, a number of cells exploded in 2003, a great many of them Nokia phones. According to Nokia, third-party or counterfeit batteries were to blame: in each and every exploding phone case it investigated, the battery in question proved not to be original to the unit and not to have included industry-standard safety measures. It also found the vast majority of short circuits that led to these explosions were caused by the units' having undergone traumatic events (such as being dropped) which jeopardized the integrity of poorly-manufactured batteries. Bet those knock-of shops are buying those batteries good and cheap. |

Saw one only for 80$, but the batteries they use are highly dangerous. IDK how they even get past the border

These controllers have capacitors inside like disposable cameras/stun guns. It stores power for the flash. I pulled one out of a camera once and it shocked the FUK out of me. Some kid got arrested by turning one into a homemade stun gun. I watched a couple videos of these exploding controllers. Both batteries where still intact. A fully charged Capacitor can KILL YOU.

That's interesting, and caps can explode. Batteries were prime suspect for me but from what you say a little more research is in order. Thanks for the heads up. |

I took a look at one video with a PS3 controller that had been damaged. Given the amount of heat that had been generated i'm going with the Li ion battery as the culprit. |
