What if module dampeners had an area effect? This is response to Marauder's accurate observation of the powerful scanning system Dust is currently experiencing. A squad based effect?
Would this help balance the sacrifice a suit goes through to deal with scanners?
Simply put maybe a bubble of 30 meters that the dampeners effect. I have suits that have 2 complex dampeners. I often succeed more with a better ehp suit. I will try to play more with the dampened suit to see if I can make it work. Scanner have changed the game significantly. I will not judge for better or worse. They make more engagements possible for sure. |

Sana Rayya wrote:I run dampeners and I don't think an AoE effect is necessary. My KDR has shot way up since I started using two complex dampeners exclusively. As a lower eHP dampened suit, you quickly learn not to fight a stand up fight against a higher eHP opponent, but instead flank, hide, sneak attack, and get whatever advantage you can out of seeing without being seen.
This is accurate facing 1v1 situations. But this game is hugely group fight, team fire. Ambush is blob warfare (OB should be banned from ambush). Skirmish and Dom is literally protect or attack a point...group fights. When my dampened AR suit rolls up on a group I can only kill maybe 2. That is including cooking nades. Players on average have 700 to 1000 ehp? They do not fall easy.(high SP players)
So ninja a squad and it is still tough not to die. If I ran a shotgun or was a better player maybe I could ninja groups but as I play and see gameplay the dampened suit do not bring a KDR advantage. Do not get me wrong...one guy shouldn't take on ten. It is just that the dampening is beneficial in very little situations because how the fights are fought...groups.
If you are seen by an enemy you are lite up and dampeners aid not. Groups will see you.
Scouts are a tough role... they are hella fast...i have fought some that just do not get hit...but that is when there are sprinting not fighting...scouts need love. |

But this is more of a nerf to scouts than a buff. Scouts don't need dampeners as much as other suits due to their scout bonus. In fact, a lvl 5 scout with lvl 3 dampening only needs a basic dampener to avoid all proto scanners except the focused. The suits who will use the most dampeners and therefore give the most dampening to other suits will be suits other than the scout. Which means you can choose to be a scout and avoid scanners on your own or you can be a logi/assault and let your entire squad avoid scanners.
Agreed...Hows about giving the scouts only the ability to AOE the dampener? Like my speech mentioned scouts especially can't handle the team fire group beating dust is. So the dampening bonus is slightly wasted on them ...except for MD and shotgun scouts...the dps from these make a ninja deadly. |

Sana Rayya wrote:Agree that most fights are blob vs. blob, but dampeners allow you to be the one guy on the OTHER side of the red blob, so you can blap the red blob while the red blob and blue blob blap it out.
Run some solo matches and deliberately leave your blob and you'll see what I mean; if you can't get scanned, only players with LOS on you will know you're there, and if you kill them quickly and carefully enough you can pick off most of the blob without being detected. Since you disappear when you break LOS, your retreat options are numerous if they do pay attention to you, and as a lone flanker you have many opportunities to lay traps with REs, hiding, etc.
I will honestly attempt this. |

Disgruntled said that I need level 5 damp to avoid pro scanners, I also heard that you indeed only need level3 damps.
My stats are at home but I believe...including passive bonus. I will edit if wrong...at work. Heavy plus cmplex dodges adv scanners.(it might be 2 I forget) Assault or logi 2 complex dodge all proto scanners except the flux direct one. Assault and logi with 1 complex dodge adv scanners. |
