So I was totally off base on the capabilities of the Small Railgun turret, the thing is actually a goddamn monster and now my probably my favorite turret to fit on a LAV. So much for theory fitting only missile and blaster fits. :P
Missiles actually I'm having a pretty hard time using an in a LAV, either I need more practice or they just aren't for me but the combination of low rate of fire and the low angle of attack means it's kind of difficult to make use of their significant splash damage in order to do what you need to do.

As a occasional Dropship gunner, Missiles are the way to go. don't bother aiming, just squeeze out few and you'll be surprised by the hit detection giving you a 'headshot' from time to time. I used to go for the old tried and true aim for the feet, let splash damage work its magic, but Dust is miserly when it comes to splash vs direct. Getting a direct hit on infantry from dropship missile turret is so easy to do accidentallyGǪ
But that's dropshipsGǪI don't know how you would manage in the back of a bucking methana, but I am interested in Lav's as a possible high-speed glass cannon to counter tank spamming. Also if they fix LLAV so it actually does it stated role of Logi'ing instead of the whole Murder Taxi thing I could get behind that. |

Yeah I mentioned this in another thread but I'm in agreement that, for Dropships, Missiles are without question the turret of choice. In LAVs I think they're less viable because it's hard to make use of the splash damage when you're not situated in a place above your opponent's field of view. It's this sort of change of perspective that makes the Railgun turret so much more viable on ground based opponents as the physical hitbox is much larger when you're parallel to your opponent's field of view vs. being perpendicular (above) it. Combine that with a monstrous rate of fire and the thing being able to 2-3 hit kill most infantry at anywhere out to 200m and the picture starts to become clear as to why the thing is soooo good.
If you're up for LAV gunning definitely try it.
Also join the channel LAV RESEARCH, we're trying to get a channel setup that matches Gunners and Pilots together. Not many people (2) are joining at the moment but we're hoping that the channel can grow as people slowly realize how powerful the LAV really is on the battlefield.
