SO...... Uprising comes out, and the FOTM is assault tac rifles with Calogi being an obviously abusive suit. These were great items at the time, so why would you want to avoid speccing into it? Well CCP has this nerfhammer that they like to throw around, and it really sucks when you waste 2.4M SP on a suit that's going to get nerfed.
so What do you guys choose to do? Spec into what everyone else is doing? Or go an alternative route that is good enough but wont get nerfed down the road?
When uprising came out I was 100% done with ARs so when we all got our respecs I put all my points into SR's instead. Looking at the calogi suit I predicted it would eventually get nerfed, so I specced into the gallente logi suit with ONE purpose, and that was to attempt armor tanking. which if anyone remembers Uprising 1.0-1.2 armor tanking was absolutely terrible for every suit. Well..... me and two others thought a bit differently. Now, ive already wrote a thread about armor tanking and why its great, and how amazing it was (ESPECIALLY back then because everyone was shield tanked and my SR was amazing). So we wont go over that again.
But now we look Five months after the fact, Armor tankers have been given two buffs (increased modules, and increased HP on said modules) while the calogi got the nerf I predicted would happen, and the Tac rifle is no longer viable as a weapon.
So what was the next FOTM? Well..... If im not mistaken it was Fused locus grenades, flaylock pistols, and grenades in general. Everyone specced into them, and what happened? Two of them got nerfed, and normal grenades are at least a little harder to use then what the other two once were. Back when they were good, I chose not to spec into them because I knew they'd get nerfed. And look what happened!
So whats all this rant about then? Well..... with new weapons and possibly new equipment/modules/suits on the horizon. I just wanted to point something out. I have no doubt many of you guys are saving SP up, but before you dump it all into the rail rifle, or whatever seems like an amazing item, consider this. If EVERYONE starts using it after a couple weeks, and we experience the same thing we had with Calogis and Tac rifles, Do you really want to put SP into items that are vulnerable to nerf? I wouldn't, and that's why its unlikely ill spec into any of the new stuff when it comes out.
At this point I have three different Weapons specced into, and Four different proto suits specced into. This means im extremely flexible right now, and if one or two things get nerfed ill have other things to fall back on. But I really don't need to worry about that because my Gallente logi suit is the only thing that's even close to needing a nerf, and absolutely no one seems to think its OP anyhow. So What was the lesson Im trying to teach guys???
Before you all go ahead and spec into all this crap that's coming out in a month or two. THINK (that's right, I said "think") BEFORE you go ahead and put a months worth of SP into all of it, because when CCP comes around with the nerf hammer, its really annoying to hear people cry "RESPEC RESPEC" and if you can, try and predict what items will get buffed. Because that just makes you feel like a boss when it happens
So without taking up anymore of your reading time...... rant over.

FOTM bandwagons are so mainstream.
Been using MDs and repairing chaps and reviving other chaps and picking up lads in my dropship since Chromosome, still haven't gotten bored of it.
If I do get bored of playing my logibro pilot, I go play on my tanker alt. or my scout alt., and after a few games I realise why I went logibro in the first place. It just works for me.
There is my formula for avoiding FOTMs. No need for the gift of foresight, no need to cast the tarot cards and dragon knuckle-bones to determine what's going to be 'in' next week and what the next OP, abused PC surefire victory tactic is. Just enjoy DUST how you feel like, not how you think you have to. When all the racial dropsuits are out there won't be any more excuses for respecs, so stick to your role and only skill into something after your mother, your dog and your dog's mother agrees that it is for the best.
I enjoy dodging nerfbatters so I guess were both happy

Look at my sig... Do you know what's really sad? As soon as my weapon got buffed, I saw a crap ton of people coming to it, abusing it, causing it to be nerfed and tossing it away like scrap metal after the nerf hammer was unleashed. In the end I'm the one paying for this, because it's my weapon. They just moved to the next FOTM. I still use the Tac AR (and by this I mean I use it over any other gun) and do good with it, believe it or not. My love for the Tac AR is so strong that I can turn it into a good weapon. It's not skill. It is love. I might be the greatest Tac AR fan of all times. In fact no one else use it anymore... and this let me guess it's not a good weapon, even if it works in my hands.
I just cant stand the recoil anymore. I got up to level 4 AR about a month ago, but after playing a few games with the ADV Tac rifle, I just couldn't handle it. Who knows, maybe its great with proto and some proficiency, but the whole reason I specced into the AR after the fact was because I was looking for a long range weapon. The LR proved to be very capable at long range combat even at level 1 so I decided to take that route instead of continually speccing down the AR tree.

I still know of a few players that I would consider to be "epic" that still use the tac ar. idk about your skill as we have never squadded but tac ar is still a viable weapon if you have the skill for it.
Ive actually been killed a few times by the TAR in recent memory, and each time was pretty shocking. Like "whoa that's a lot of damage im taking per bullet" "ohhhhhh its a duvolle tac....... well that's different" is generally what happens.

You should also find solace in the fact that Scouts are eventually going to get buffed into glory! I mean, enough people complain about them, and the first buff looks like its rolling out in just a couple days.

It's simple. Stop being a tryhard and spec into what you like because it's cool and fun. Things will always get nerfed and buffed back and forth.
But what if being a tryhard is fun for me????
