are there any future plans to remove this function?
the straffing from left to right is very "awkward" looking.. if that makes sense, say for example im engaged in a firefight with another player, i adopt a stable firing postion and attempt to take down the enemy target, round fire back and forth but this guy is dart from left to right spraying everywhere no real accurate fire being put down. i continoue to fire when the target is straffing into my sights whislt hes reloading and kill him... contiune to strolll over to him and tea bag him for using such faggotary tactics.
what im trying to say is the whole experience was very "awkward" and i just felt some what embaressed for this other player :/ as far as i know video games try to simulate real life combat with immersion, atmosphere and tactics.. but taking down this child just felt very animated and not really enjoyable tbh...
im no strager i know straffing has been a on going issue with dust since replication but until PvE is launched i really think you should address this more aggressively as its making gameplay "jerking", frustrating and quite frankly unrealistic..
so i request i "nerf" if it can be called that on straffing speeds to LEFT AND RIGHT to 0.5 m per second... maintaining current movement speeds forwards and backwards is fine but this strange gameplay where players are locked into some sort of ballet with one another really has to sto its kinda silly to be honest :/
i cant be the only one as i have open heard other players beat there children and other horrible due to the frustration of straffing in this game so ... CCP think about the children :( do it for them..

So you want to remove an important aspect of gunplay in a high health FPS because you think it looks silly? What about lower HP dropsuits that rely on mobility as their only advantage?

Strafing should always be an option since we have high health, but I think they should buff melee damage or modules a bit to make cqc matches more exciting. Also I think the melee animation recovery is way too slow. I like the hmg melee the best and the visual feedback from that needs to match how quickly you can pull another punch out.

maybe..
if so then it should be a combat roll to the right or left, only scouts are allowed to do it or something
and players cant fire whilst performing a combat roll animation.
just something to stop these players staffing so fast that it looks like he is sliding on one foot ahilst firing at me form left to right... its ******* ridiculaous you cant deny that right?

Work on your sustained aim. Encounters shouldn't just come down to who shoots first. We have plenty of games that do that. You take away strafing and there will be even more on an emphasis on whoever has the highest EHP wins as there's been since the 1.4 patch. Mobility = life and when you have fully automatic weapons with no kick doing their full DPS in a complete second, auto-aim, and repair/recharge modules that are completely useless thanks to the overall short TTK, strafing is what keeps combat in this game from being turn based random encounters.

It would be interesting if this game had a killzone like weight to it. We kinda just shift back with this linear acceleration / deceleration coupled with an unstable framerate to make it seem worse. Maybe if scouts were the only ones able to move like we do now and everyone else gets a little non linear speed to their strafe....
I remember in closed beta the enemy and I would empty 2 clips on each other and resort to a loose and awkward melee duel. That was a problem, nowadays it isn't too bad

That was a problem, nowadays it isn't too bad In closed beta hit detection was horrible, even by Uprising standards. Remove the lateral cap, add a cap to back pedaling, remember that stamina prevents constant bunny hopping and this game will start to feel like an FPS with RPG elements instead of the other way around.

I loled, I remember those days, when both parties could literally neo dodge all bullets leaving us nothing left but fisticuffs, or I guess we had build in knives back then though.

Doing my research now so I can formally articulate everything. Fun fact: Even arcade twitch FPS like CoD have an emphasis on strafing. Looking at some MLG clips now where a quick lateral movement allowed a player to survive a 2 on 1 encounter.

As someone who competed in CAL-I for Counter-Strike 1.6 (bringing back the good ol' memories) as well as MLG for CoD: MW2 I will attest that strafing is absolutely PIVOTAL in any first person shooter game. |

I know I have tried, and lost, many times to get side strafing (and bunny hopping) removed. I hate them because they're just silly.
There is no physics adhering way that a person can move back and forth from right to left rapidly (FFS the human body can't even sidestep that quickly to begin with) while keeping a perfect bead on a target. Physics says that acceleration forces will make the barrel of the gun continue to move in the direction you were sidestepping. So all that would happen is your barrel would swing back and forth horizontally spraying bullets everywhere while the guy who isn't moving tracks you with limited effort and kills you.
But no; everyone and their mother loves how side strafing works (for some silly reason) and are willing to ignore basic physics because it's "a staple in competitive FPS culture". Ugh, whatever. My dream is that someday CCP will add barrel swing to jumping, running, and side strafing so that everyone who relies on these silly physics engine loopholes to win will die to scrubs like me who sit still and shoot them in accurately the chest 10 times like a real soldier does.
I am going to back to crawling in the mud in ARMA now for another two hours... |
