I honestly havent seen one vet that opposes this. I think we have a big gap between the new guys that CCP is trying to get into the game and vets who have been around for months.
By having no cap until, say 6 million SP, newberries have the ability to grind their way into relevance on the battle field.
- They still have to work for it so we arent giving them anything - More hours logged on the game means that they will get more familiar with how to play and find their 'style' - Would increase overall player counts later in the weekly SP cycle
Is this something that the CSM and CCP are even considering?

Really like the idea of getting our newcomers up-to-speed and invested faster. Seems to me a "grinding" newcomer would be more inclined to use Boosters.

grinding for 2 weeks, 1.6 mil sp, I spec'd out my sp fairly well with what I have. I have skills. I have no drop suite with skills to match my skills. And I still get my ass handed to me with AR's point and shoot and kill.
Need sp bonus please.

I think that having no cap at the beginning for new players will help to get them invested in the game. By time you have hit 6mil SP you have put in some work.
For 5,500,000 SP at around 5k SP per match that would be 1100 matches for something like Skirmish or Dom. Passive SP would hardly make a dent in that as Im sure they would be grinding like crazy to catch up.

Easiest way to do it
1. Make the active SP cap roll over between weeks, up to *x amount*. 2. New players enter the game with their SP bucket filled up, so they can grind as soon as their boots hit the ground.

One thing to understand is that for many of us the weekly cap was always supposed to be a "temporary" mechanic. For a long time players have been asking for SP rollover, so that players aren't punished if they go on vacation for a week and the like.
I think this could tie into a global SP pool where basically you take the theoretical max active SP that a player could have since the last reset and put that in a pool of SP that players can get. While veteran players may be ahead in SP this global pool would still allow players to catch up through active play.
I also think that newly created characters should receive a complementary active booster that's already plugged into their character to give them a bit of extra SP and also introduce them to the concept of the SP boosters. In addition I think that new players should get an optional respect somewhere around the 30 day mark. It's easy to make skilling mistakes in the early days of your Dust career, and there is no reason the newbros should be punished for it.

I definitely get that but I havent seen yet where CCP has said anything about rollover SP being on their to-do list in the near future. As someone who has limited time to play the game and many other responsibilities (work, grad school, social life) I would definitely welcome it myself.
Whether rollover happens or not, the NPE needs to extend well beyond the Academy. Im not for hand holding at all but something needs to be done to get them invested into the game. Sadly, right now, the best advice to give a new player is to have two accounts. One to learn the game on and one to passively build SP to use when they figure out what they want to do.
I agree that there should be a skill booster included with every new account and an optional respec after the first 30 days or so.

if this was done 3.5- 4mill sp will start you off nice.
Only problem is CCP wont make money off this idea. Great for the players but bad for business. Once dust gets lets say 20K players playing(hope it picks up beyond that) They could do this. I would love to see this game have 50K just on dust. |

Academy mode for players under 5 mil SP. They will have access to all of the game modes like we do now, and the ability to choose. At 10 mil they are offered an optional respec. No cap until then.

I've always been very supportive of this idea. One of the hardest things to explain to a new player is that it will simply be months before they're allowed to stop dying to game mechanics rather than their own skill.
Of course it goes without saying that unleashing holy tiericide upon suits is another important step in getting the NPE and the game in general feeling more healthy.

There are a lot of things that can be done to make this game better for new players but I think that this one is the easiest to implement without a massive overhaul or lowering the counts for pub matches. My other ideas would be a massive post to write.
- Require new players to sign on to the forums - CCP to actually promote trainer corps like Dust Uni - Corp training rooms/matches where you can use any gear you want
The list goes on

Not necessarily. I hope CCP doesn't think as short-term as you are here. I would personally hate to see this game die due to lack of players. CCP needs fresh blood and catering to new players needs to happen more, regardless if it hurts the wallet now. The more people that are hooked, the more they will have buying Aurum items when they release it. Who knows they might even have a few venture into that other game they made.
Sorry for shooting you in the back. Now please look elsewhere so I can continue.

It's something I'm certainly pushing for. Everything is up in the air, and fair game, with the new EP coming in to shake things up. As we continue to meet with him we'll keep the issue raised and see if we can get him on board with something along these lines. I know he's keen to lower the barrier of entry for new players, so this shouldn't be too hard to sell. We'll keep you posted if anything develops,
