Reading through old backlogs of the forums I came upon this gem of an module type that CCP had once introduced but has long fallen off the radar.
They are called Basic Auto Detonators: a "Bomb that goes off upon death that's strong enough to kill nearby infantry."
What I am simply proposing is that pilot suits have these modules built in automatically. In order to prevent suicide spawners using these low ehp suits on enemies camping uplinks (), the module can only be activated after entering a vehicle. I leave the floor open to discussion, critiques, and hammering out kinks in such a system.

They're essentially suicide REs... I wouldn't mind them so long as they're a piece of equipment instead of a module or built-in specifically for Pilots; wouldn't need the enter vehicle to activate nerf either. Could see some interesting builds using the Scout and Commando coming from this. |

That might actually give pilot suits a modicum of suitability when exiting a vehicle. Depending on the proximity of the pilot, combatants might hesitate to pop the pinata for fear of getting a not so pleasant treat.
I would recommend that the detonator run on a diminishing timed charge that is powered by the vehicle. This means that the power of the blast diminishes every second the pilot is outside the vehicle until the charge reaches a null state. Upon this time, the pilot can be killed without trigger a blast.

As far as Scout builds, I think people were really fearful of Nova Knifer griefing. Essentially you could come as somebody with Knives and if that failed you'd quickly pull out your explosive as they were killing you. Instapop.

No different than well-place REs or speed tankers who run by and drop REs (except those guys survive).
If it's a module, then the only requirement for activation is death; however, if it's equipment, a requirement could be in place where the equipment can't be activated and only if the merc has that piece of equipment selected upon death would it activate. That way, NK griefers would have to switch to the equipment before they die, and it's not just automatic activation.
Assuming there's another person to help the guy being assaulted, the guy using the Auto Detonators would have to time it so he wouldn't get picked off while another guy is attacking. Otherwise, he wouldn't do jack because he'd be grinding up against a guy waiting to die, forced to be using the AD equipment instead of an actual weapon. |
