So I've been following Bungie's Destiny and I have to admit, the game looks gorgeous, has an interesting story, and promises some really interesting customization possibilities.
Considering how Dust 514 is more about the infantry warfare and it's effects on the overall world of EVE Online, and Destiny seems to be more about PvE, should us soldiers be concerned that Destiny could cull numbers from Dust? There aren't too many MMOFPS, and the level of polish and production going into Destiny is staggering. I don't know if Dust can stand up to it in the Next Generation without a NextGen presence.
What do you all think? I really like Dust and would hate to see it crumble in it's infancy... |

If you're bored of dust go play something else for a 5 years and come back to PS3 after PS5 and check dust for PVE.

Destiny looks great, no amount of my own love of Dust will change that opinion. I don't see it as a threat though (at last not anymore than other big games), since its offering very different things then Dust is; adventure, exploration, a sense of awe and wonder, emphasis on PVE.

Dust numbers may drop some, but I think there is a large amount of the player base here that isn't going anywhere for a long time. 1.7 in December could possibly even grow the player base. If done properly. If.
But no, Destiny= no long term threat, in my opinion. |

Titanfall is more of a DUST competitor.
Titanfall will probably replace Battlefield on the #2 spot.
Even though it will only be for XBox.
CCP isn't in the running even as far as DUST 514 is concerned. DUST will be gone as soon as PS4s and XB1s take off in a couple of years. If the game lasts that long.
To compare DUST, as far as market share, to CoD, BF, Destiny, Titanfall, Killzone, Crysis, Halo, and maybe even Homefront(coming next year) simply doesn't work right now....
You don't compare your 8 year old son's club basketball team to the 1996-97 Chicago Bulls...

You all bring up some valid points, but I've heard rumors of PS4 builds of Dust. Additionally, I read an article saying that nothing is forcing Dust to be exclusive to PS. That means that it may have NextGen life on both consoles. I am really optimistic that I'll be playing Dust into the next decade. :-) |

Destiny is more like a Mass Effect / Elder Scrolls hybrid, it is easy soft sci fi, seriously a warlock class? All they need now is open minded and sexually active humanoid aliens and they are set. This compared to Dust's hard sci fi and pvp environment
Destiny WILL be a great game, but it is easy a different type of game.

Thanks guys! I was a little bit worried. I know CCP has an amazing track record with that they have done with EVE Online, so I just hope that us players and their developers continue to support this project. It is truly one of a kind (just got two friends to start playing, and they love it) experience and I look forward to seeing how it evolves. |

Actually, i getting a new Gaming Computer for X-mas that is 3 times more expensive than the PS4... i will get the PS4 second hand, eventually.

Yeah okay...let me guess cod is also better than BF? Bunch of little kids camping in cod maps are small enough for it to work too...I can throw a nade from one spawn to the enemies...I don't see titanfall being that great especially with it being on the loserbox |

You guys are acting like the PS3 is going to magically become obsolete. I'm fairly certain the PS3 will still have a larger active player base than the PS4 through 2014.

Meh, takes me about a year to buy a new system. I'm sure plenty of people wait for price drops and larger game libraries, I know I do. I'd like to see Dust on the PS4 one day, but it won't be anytime soon, so i'm in no rush for a PS4. Dust will be fine. |

For me it isnt about whether Destiny is a direct competitor to DUST or not. If I have fun playing Destiny (pre-ordered btw) I wont care about playing DUST. My clan has divested from DUST for the most part anyway.

Sorry but no, other than the polished graphics, art and storyline it's nothing new in the slightest, I find pve tedious, boring and most of all predictable.
The PvP might entice me provided it's not the same 17 year old re hashed crap.

I still remember about all the games that people where saying, hyping up to god levels about how it was going to beat the absolute crap of anything we were currently playing.
Everyone of those game was in trouble 6 months after its launch, not Dust kind of trouble but pure ghost towns so bad they had to consolidate servers, including Biowares Star Wars of 300m $.
Ill see it when it happens, been waiting for that game to come out for 16 years since Ultima Online, my guess is we will be waiting another 13 or so for devs to go back at creating games with depth.

warframe, the division, the order, deep down, farcry 3, diablo 3, the witcher 3, killzone, planetside 2, FF-X HD. kingdom hearts remix, kindoms of amalour, GTA V , blacklight, the last of us, beyond two souls and when I manage to play those then theres elder scrolls and borderlands 3, fallout 4...........whew!! thats a lot of games.
So guess that AR514 is going on the bench as far as my game time.

...I mean seriously their art has some cloaked guy manipulating a plasma ball with his hands. Any game that shoe-horns magic into a Sci-Fi game is bound to be bad.
Even Mass Effect felt wrong. What's the point in using a plasma rifle when my Sentinel can shoot fire balls out of his hands. |

No. Its like a cup of joe but you wanted tea instead. Both are caffeine strong drinks yet neither of them are anywhere the same.
Destiney is more of a threat to halo, borderlands, and warframe.
Dust 514 is more threatened by other shooters such as Battlefield and CoD at the moment.
Now a year from now... who knows what sort of vector Dust 514 may be in, it may be a horrific idea sounding tea and coffee blended drink or something then.

And you don't think that is cheaper than Dust? 30 bucks every year (by your example) iss nothing compared to the amount of money I've put in this game in just one (god forbid you are one of the few who paid 100+ bucks for the game), and yet, I will probably get much more out of my money than CCP has given me with Dust within the same time-frame.
(And yes, I understand production/employee differences between the two, but when they both ask for the same standard prices [even if Destiny doesn't ask for 100 dollars for silly packs], I am more willing to buy from Bungie.) |

Now that you mention it, the EVE universe could use some sex. Let's start a petition to have a race of nymphomaniacal unisexual (yet ostensibly female by dint of gigantic ****) 3-toed cat-people invade New Eden. The player base would explode into the tens of thousands overnight!
Seriously though, Destiny looks rather dull to me. Maybe it's because I never played/don't have any nostalgia for Halo, I don't know. Since you mention Warlock, the idea of 3 distinct classes is also a turnoff for me.

If Destiny pans out to be close to what it seems to be it will take up much of my gaming time, especially if Dust still doesn't have any "meaning", connection to Eve, or a robust metagame. But I also don't see Destiny as something that will last more than 60 hours or so to me, I'll have fun playing the campaign and exploring its worlds with other guys from BCG, but I seriously doubt its PvP will make me want to play that instead of Dust when I've done all the PvE stuff.
Currently what Dust has going for it (for me at least) is that it's always the other game I'm playing. I play and finish many single player games (I love gamefly and PS+) but at the same time I usually get in a couple Dust matches a day and often a several hour session a week if folks from my corp are on. So if CCP does it right Dust will remain that game I go back to and play between other games.
Oh and Titanfall will likely be on PS4 at some point, it is a timed exclusive and published by EA who really like money. It may be a larger danger to Dust's playerbase in the long run. |

i love dust but if it doesn't get put up to the standards of some of the games coming out then i might spend a bit more time on destiny then i will on dust.
Plus it all comes down to the one question: Will DUST 514 also be compatible with the PS4
The thing is, there really is no reason for dust to not also be availible on the ps4 as well as the ps3. |

Not only that but it is not like the 90 million PS3s are going to quit working the day 4 comes out. The PS3 is just now coming to the end and it still has at least 2 more years to go. The PS2 has only been out of production in Japan for about a year. They still make games for the 2, 3, psp and they are all old. To think one game or a system that isn't even out yet is going to kill a game is short sighted.
The amount of doom and hate that this game receives isn't warranted. Yes, DUST has its problems but we are making progress but CCP is a long term investment. If you cant even wait the one year for the first anniversary then you probably won't like this game anyways. Read the history of EVE and you will quickly learn that getting in a hurry or expecting new content to constantly be released in a timely manner without problems is not very smart.
If we stick to the game and provide feedback that is productive instead of one liners to get likes then we would make better progress. The worst mistake we can make is expecting anything fast or perfect. Good, cheap or fast - you only get two; is what my electronics teacher used to tell me and DUST is cheap and working on good so there isn't much room for fast.
