As I made my way to the artillery base to mount an assault on our once beautiful city of Bethune, I looked towards the broken sky and noticed that ship again. Saeldar. We were to meet on the Ghost plains east of Bethune to retake our city for our people. The men of Pradox were certain we were to fight the shadow company once more, which is when the command authorized outside reinforcements for an insertion team. Tensions were mounting, I knew that command brought us specialists, but I was worried if I were to be good enough to take on the shadow company that I heard so much about.
I looked to one of my men sitting outside the encampment 10 minutes before the attack, I asked him "are you nervous?"
"sort of" he replied. I knew he was nervous, but not nearly as nervous as I was.
I was going to try and comfort him, (and myself, I confess) but as soon as I was going to, I heard the comm system turn on.
"Squad 1, get in position, we are making the offensive, repeat, get in position." the person on the other side said.
It was only 3minutes into the fight and already hell broke loose. Explosions and shots were going off everywhere. In the midst of all the crossfire, I noticed that the banners of the warriors on the outer walls weren't that of the emblem I was showed which belonged to the shadow company. the banners belonged to the warriors inside the public disorder alliance. Talented individuals, to be sure, but I wasn't going to give up a single bit of dirt on Praetoria without a fight. The fighting between my squad and the PD warriors continued for a good ten minutes before I heard on the comms "this is Team O.H., we have breached the northern barricade. I heard again on the comms " this is Team A.E., we have breached the southern barricade. I thought to myself, crap, they're already through? I shouted to my men, "Alright boys, the other teams just broke through their barricades, step it up, now!"
It took a few casualties, but we managed to clear the defense and retake the outer limits of the city. As I was making my approach to the inner city, I recieved a message from command. "Commander Derrith, we need your forces to pull back, we need fresh fighters to help in the retaking of our city, we need to give our new recruits battle time anyway." I was against my forces pulling back, but my men looked tired, and what command said made sense. "alright men, we've been ordered to report back to base."
Praetorian artillery base, 15 miles outside Bethune
I waited in my quarters for news from the front. The anticipation was too much to bear. I could feel my mind racing with thoughts of making Praetoria sovereign again. I looked outside my window to notice the RTH flagship Saeldar. Explosions were engulfing the ship, and Saeldar looked like it took a fair amount of damage I didn't get to see.
Thirty minutes after I was ordered to stand down on the assault, I received a message from the Pradox forces. It was Commander Killed Again. "Good news, we've retaken the city, Praetoria is sovereign again."
"good." I replied. "and the civilians, are they okay?"
"Yeah, also a bit of interesting news," he continued, "apparently, within the inner city, I confirmed sightings of the shadow company that decimated our forces, The A.E. and O.H teams helped in taking them out."
I heaved a sigh of relief.
2 Hours after the retaking of Bethune
I walked on the outskirts where the flagship Saeldar once loomed overhead. I'm not sure what I was doing there, it was certainly more than admiring the view. I decided to make my way to the city, on my way there I stumbled upon a large piece of wreckage from the flagship Saeldar. the wreckage looked to be that of a persons quarters. I tried to make my way inside, but the door wouldn't budge. I looked to the ground of the entrance and noticed a piece of scrap metal. It was small, perfect for a souvenir. I picked it up and stored it away. I then abruptly returned to my quarters in the artillery base and found a piece of string to attach the Saeldar scrap metal to. I may not have been able to see Saeldar flee the system, but this was a close second. |
