I think the biggest difference between CCP's detractors, who just can't leave ;), and proponents, who see an amazing future ahead of us, is expectations re timescales. It's really a matter of what peeps think an appropriate timescale is and how much peeps modify their expectations for rate of development based on the pioneering nature of our mission here.
When pioneering, the name of the game is spending your resources wisely and allotting a certain amount of time/resouces for bactracking, which is a hell of a lot more interesting than just stamping out another cookie-cutter fps, imo, and worth the tribulations we and the devs live with day-in and day-out. The road to New Eden's promised land is paved with deprivation, frustration, rage, hopelessnes and lamentations, mercs.
What i'd say to peeps is that CCP has displayed a very coherent set of priorities since about 1.3, and from EVE Vegas we know that we're about to start the real integration process with New Eden. On top of that, Atli has said that the full racial suit content is soon, not soonGäó.
The other thing that keeps me going is the knowledge that there's an awful lot of behind-the-scenes plumbing in DUST that other shooter don't need to implement because they're not embedded in a virtual universe with it's own very real and very powerful set of dynamics.
When you think that some of the choices being made regarding the EVE-DUST link are the result of stakeholder input from EVE development, DUST development, CSM, CPM, EVE forums and DUST forums it's more than a little mind-boggling. I'm sure the devs feel like they've gotta convene the grand-f***ing council every time they need to change a dropsuit colour.
Anyway, that's enough from me. My opinion is that although we're deep in the heart of the battle and there are hunks of charred dropsuit, wrecked Duvolles, smoking brainpan and cerebral design-gore flying everywhere, the CCP/community entity has already won, and soon will be seen to have single-handedly carved out a new and mind-blowing space in the FPS universe.
And if ANY of the big shiny pretty-boy FPS design houses think they'd like a piece of that probably-very-lucrative space, well, all i can do is laugh and say 'Come at us, bros.'
