There is something wrong with the average gamer's mentality nowadays.
I saw terrible games being titled as "Game of the year" even though they have many more game breaking glitches and dumb mechanics than DUST (cough cough Fable2 cough cough). And people saying "OMG this game is amazing!"... seriously?
Did some of you guys try to get the Platinum in Assassin's Creed 3? Oh, don't misunderstand, it's good game. But going for the Platinum, you run into some unbelievable bugs. I had to DELETE my entire save file at 93% after two weeks of gameplay and do it all over again because one character disappeared. Not to mention the "Head in the Cloud" trophy OMG!
What I'm trying to say is that DUST doesn't deserve to be ridiculized because of some technical issue.
About gameplay? For once we have a complex and interesting system and people whine about it. Wow. "I don't want to spend a whole hour just to read the skill descriptions", I've been told...
How old are these people? 8? 10? Where are the good "old" gamers? I don't mean "pro gamers", it's not a fact of skills, even a 10 years old kid can be a skilled fps player. I'm talking about MENTALITY.
Nowadays, people can't find their own butt without a hint and a minimap!
DUST is a serious game. You need half working brain to play it and enjoy it. Is this a bad thing?
Sonic The Hedgehog was much more complicated than many recent games. No kidding. I remember (I believe it was Sonic 3, the original Sega title) there was a level where at some point there is some kind of floating barrel and you have to jump and press the directional buttons in a particular pattern to go through it. No one tells you how to do it. And you know what? THOUSAND people got stuck there (...yes me too ) But we didn't quit the game. We squeezed our little brains and we did it. In 1993 there was not the "GOOGLE IT AND WATCH HOW IT'S DONE" option.
(Oh oh oh, I found it, there it is lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39HwCcwzbmY)
There is a difference in mentality.
Graphics? I remember something about choosing a game for its graphics is like choosing *that* movie for its plot... lol.
Last but not least, I see people laughing at DUST because it's F2P. "What? A F2P game? Pffffffffffffff". Well, I'd like to find these people in real life and *****slap them really really hard. It's the same kind of people who judge you because you wear a cheap t-shirt and an unknown pair of jeans.
Conclusion: DUST is a good game, because it's unique, interesting and has an incredible potential. Too bad it's running at maybe 20% of its potential and that's what bugs me that much.
PS: CCP didn't pay me to say this lol |
