The Beam Lance is a high-power, shoulder-fired laser developed by Viziam. Inspired by early prototype designs of the well-known Laser Rifle, the Beam Lance trades versatility for power. Not only is it highly effective against infantry, it can also deal heavy damage to vehicles. This power comes at the cost of increased heat build-up, reduced aiming speed, and a mandatory charge before firing. The Beam Lance is the Amarr equivalent of the Plasma Cannon and Swarm Launcher.
To operate, hold down the fire button to charge. Once the weapon is fully charged, release the trigger to unleash a destructive beam of energy. You move and aim more slowly when the Beam Lance is charging or firing. The Beam Lance produces less heat the longer it is fired, but also deals less damage the longer it is fired. Heat build-up is extreme, so firing two beams in quick succession is not possible under normal circumstances. Multiple Beam Lancers can fire devastating volleys of lasers at the enemy, not unlike a volley of musket fire, though far more deadly and with far better range.
Advantages over the Laser Rifle The Beam Lance is much more damaging.
The Beam Lance can be effectively used as an anti-vehicle weapon.
Disadvantages over the Laser Rifle The Beam Lance must charge before use.
The Beam Lance aims more slowly.
The Beam Lance cannot be used continuously.
Possible Variants Burst - Charges faster, but heat build-up is also faster.
Assault - Heat build-up is slower, but damage is reduced.
Breach - Heat build-up is slower, but takes longer to charge.

I really hope that's how ccp makes it. I think the Heavy Laser should be more of a suppression weapon than an alpha weapon, so I don't want this to replace the supposed Heavy Laser that everyone is mentioning.

EVE: Templar One wrote:A stream of plasma leapt from the barrel, striking two of the Valklears directly. The fist man exploded as the seventeen-thousand-degree-Celsius arc struck the body armor in his chest. The second man was cut in half cleanly: The arc swept through his torso, leaving his detached extremities unscathed.
The third man was blinded as the arc carved a molten gash into the building he had just left; white-hot material caught him flush in the face, burning deep into his flesh. Screaming, he swung his weapon about, wildly spraying automatic rounds. Plasma weaponry. Plasma isn't just for Gallente, people!
