I like your remark, Tallen! It is kind of cool to be able to think of all our arms and equipment as "reliable" or "faulty" based on their EVE manufacturer. Like folks will argue that the foreign Toyota can't handle the real world like a new 2014 line Ford Focus.
I have called RDV drops countless times (LAVs and DSs only),... but I've only had the RDV glitch occur ONCE for me, and it was when I called the drop between the corner of a low building and the base of a moderate cliff. It LOOKED to me like there was plenty of clearance for the RDV to make the drop... but the RDV had a different opinion I guess.
I'm not sure how difficult (or possible) it will be for the devs to make a successful A.I. for the RDVs, so we may need to try different strategies in the field to minimize the problem as much as we can.
Maybe if we give CCP more detailed observations, we can help them help us.
Have you all noticed whether you get the yo-yo/ hang-up glitch:
--in full open flat terrain, (unfortunately exposed to enemy view) with the nearest building a 2 minute walk away?
--in a spot that is clearly an easy drop, but where a building is near one end of the drop site?
--in a spot where there's only some TERRAIN challenges, but NO BUILDINGS near you at all?
--(like my situation), in a spot that's clearly an easy drop, but technically had a building near one end and some changing terrain at the other end?
I have to admit, SEVERAL times I see mercs call in a drop in places where, "Dude, you were way too eager and REALLY didn't consider where you were standing AT ALL" ,... But I suspect a lot of it is just that the Balos graphics requires more open space around it than what we can SEE as clear space in the map.
We may just have to risk more time by running further out and pampering the RDV with more "baby-dainty" to deliver to. I know it sounds bad, but for now it beats that humiliating feeling that we "handed over a 900K vehicle for even Mr Magoo to incinerate" or failed our team due to getting hung up. |
