Why does the duvolle cost so much cpu and lvl 5 assault gun? everything other then a slight damage increase and meta level are the same but the duvolle makes it so i cant use hardly any good modules or shield extenders and im wondering why i just spent so much sp for something im not sure i wana fit into my dropsuit. I'm new to dust and went with assault rifle as my weapon of choice and figure when i get the lvl 5 assault gun skill ill be kickass but instead i dont think i wana use the reward weapon.. am i missing something here or did i just get scammed out of all my sp that ive been saving? |

yo, well i can see that your main problem is probably that you bought lvl 5 AR without having core skills
if u spec into dropsuit core upgrades/ engineering / electronics then you will have more CPU/PG
also equipping a proto weapon on anything below an adv medium frame is tricky

i put some sp into cpu/pg but its still 90 cpu to use the duvolle and 45 for the gek which is only slightly worse i cant see why the duvolle cost so much sp if its not that much stronger and costs twice as much cpu |

Have you got light weapon operation at level 5, this reduces CPU usage by 15% on all light weapons. You can also use a basic CPU enhancer to overcome any minor difficulties with lack of CPU.
You will definitely want level 5 core upgrades, electronics and engineering.
Secondly have a few skill points in the Assault Rifle Fitting Optimisation skill to reduce PG usage, very expensive skill so optional if you need a few points of PG back. Failing that , go proto suit. |

if you have the gallente suit all the ay up you will be saving 25% on assault rifles because they are classed as hybrids and with the CPU skill you are saving another 15% that 40% on assault rifles |

Did you know that the Duvolle is just as effective as a standard AR with a complex damage mod?
Skill into damage mods (it's a lot of sp, but worth it), and you will be able to run super effective suits fornot very much isk at all.
But for now you can skill into AR proficiency...getting it up to level 2 is good enough, as that will give you a permanent 6% damage increase...which pretty much makes your gek as powerful as the duvolle.
Once you have these, and some of your core skills up to at least level 3, you need an advanced suit. Then finally once you have your advanced suit you can equip it with a gek and a damage mod for maximum effectiveness.
Lastly, getting your AR level up to 5 isn't useless...you get a 25% reduction to kick and access to the proficiency skill for your weapon. Just because you have a weapon unlocked doesn't mean you have to use it. Seriously, don't use prototype stuff until you actually have the core skills, suits, modules, and equipment to back them up.
I have 23 million sp, and even I don't use prototype stuff except for on rare occasions. This game is about risk vs reward. If you use a cheap suit and die a lot, you won't lose very much money. The better suits you can use, the more expensive they get, and the less you can die before you start losing money.
If you use prototype items and die with them a lot, you will lose a lot...but there's more of a chance of you not dying while using them instead of the cheap stuff. |

ya great input everyone thanks. I am lacking on some necessary upgrades like pg/cpu upgrades and dmg mods which is one reason why my proto weapon seems so expensive.. also i dont have adv caldari dropsuit yet, just the basic medium assault, c-1. I think now i will spend a little sp into pg/cpu upgrades while working for an advanced dropsuit that might have the cpu/pg to let me setup a class with duvolle that i like. dust 514 really makes you learn how to customize your merc in a sense that you need to know everything like basic cpu/pg upgrades for example or else you will be less effective in battle and i like that :P even though the high tier weapons cost more to use and that negates the cost, its ok because there are cost upgrades you can buy or not buy. im going to get some caldari prototype gear goin on so be prepared 2 see me in battle! i might even get a positive k/d once in a while!

Always something helpful and incisive.
P.S. On a side note : can I borrow some of your skill points ..???.. I don't know if and when I will be able to pay you back , but 23 million ... DAM !!!!! |

I've got a starter fit with a Freedom Mass Driver, and all it took was me removing the MLT injector for a K-2 hive, and one PG extender

Gek just feels...worthless. I'd rather use a STD with a dmg mod. |

with damage mods it's significantly stronger and if you level up Light Weapon Operation it reduces the CPU on all light weapons. that will help with your fittings.
