NOTE According to Iron Wolf Saber of the CPM any ideas "promised" by CCP more than 4 months ago are never going to happen ever. Here's some more things not coming because they are too old. |

CCP Nothin wrote:We acknowledge that the current implementation of the skill cap still isn't quite there yet. It doesn't quite allow people to choose when to play as freely as we would like, and it also adds some unnecessary complexity when it comes to using active boosters. This is why we are working our way towards a rollover SP system: instead having your pool of bonus SP being reset according to a fixed weekly cycle, you will steadily accumulate bonus SP to a pool over time that you can then empty through fighting in battles. As a result, everyone should be able to better choose when to come in and claim the available SP. Moving to such a system would have the added benefit of allowing us to make active boosters to give out a constant value over time by having them influence the rate at which SP accumulates into the pool instead of just multiplying SP received at the end of each battle.

Guys.
Rollover SP was always a stupid idea.
It's a pointless feature.
For much fewer lines of code you can solve the frustration of the skill cap by JUST REMOVING IT.
Why would a gimmick from one of the most hated industries in the world be a good solution?
The solution is simple: You earn the SP that you earn.
If someone wants to grind 24/7 on their character, LET THEM. Those dedicated players help the game more than they hurt. |

SP roll over - not going to happen.
The trend of AFK began back then because the roll over wasn't an option. At least then people were logging on to AFK. Now AFK isn't even happening because of overall apathy. If they implemented a roll over most beta vets would simply quit now and log in once every 6 months to see if the game was improved or that actual content had been added. The daily bonus and recent omega booster reintroduction are a desperate attempt to curb the tide of apathy that is washing over this game. That sp roll over should have been set up last March if it had the player counts would still be low with a dispersia bored people but they would have been returning as hopeful players instead of the beat down state people are currently leaving. |

the rollover would be capped at 1 month btw... So if you came back in 6 months you'd have about 1,600,000 to chew through before hitting the cap. This way players who play less NEVER HIT THE CAP |

I still think its a great idea but it's about 9 months past the time when it could have made a positive difference to curb burnout. At this time it would only be like having the girl you've want to break up with say "can we be friends" right before you dumped her. You can walk away with a clear conscience that you didn't have to go through the heartbreak, but you're never really going to be friends |

We use daily player count to measure the popularity/life of the game, so it's only natural that CCP do everything it can to boost that number.
That's part of what the daily connection bonus is all about. They hope you will stick around for a battle or at least just stay logged in and peruse your stats and fittings to get that number up.
The other part is to just keep you thinking about DUST every day.
The rollover SP system runs counter to that and therefore will not be implemented. The only chance it will have is some day if/when the player base is strong enough that CCP is no longer worried about success. |

but once it hits a month... then you're wasting sp... That's the point you've have to keep playing because the roll over sp system had a cap of 30 days.
How would a 30 day pool of sp matter? People could only ever be a week behind. How would that stop people from logging in? If anything it would keep casual players making sure they log in so the sp roll over doesn't hit the cap. The game punishes people with less time to play. But this way people don't have to feel like because they go on vacation for 2 weeks they fall behind.
It seems like something that would encourage people to come back not push them away. |

Rollover SP would break CCP's income from Dust.
Why?
I don't play for three weeks.
I log in, activate a single cheap booster, and smash out three weeks worth of SP in the course of a couple of days.
How much money did CCP just lose here? A lot. |

Ah, but CCP has already thought of a redesign that takes your scenario into account:
Quote:Moving to such a system would have the added benefit of allowing us to make active boosters to give out a constant value over time by having them influence the rate at which SP accumulates into the pool instead of just multiplying SP received at the end of each battle

Hell, they could double up on that with a booster that draws from the pool faster.

Love how people overread into my comments, it really asks for me to snap at them and makes them look bad.
1. We did lose our previous EP, we have a new one and he's middle of drafting the next roadmap. If this is news to you then you guys need to get out of underneath rocks you been hiding in.
2. Dust 514 previous schedule before Fanfest likely did not survive the reviews on launch day, remember CPM was still forming and there was a lot of things the CPM didn't know about then and ever since launch day the patches had have heavily reflected the mode of patch CCP has been in: Repair mode, that roadmap is slowly coming to a close and it will be time for the new one that will dictate how 2014 of Dust will look like.
3. Learn to have a grey color of expectancy and certainty. This black and white levels of not happening and will happening needs to effing stop. NOW. The world is not binary. I can promise you the sun would rise tomorrow, but the universe may see fit to explode it. Now you're going to get pissed off at me because I made a promise that is now impossible to happen? Humans are not binary neither is the universe.
4. CPM hasn't forgotten the important things at all, we already had short talks with the EP over player progression and the many issues surrounding that portion of the experience. Just right now there is plenty of distractions and a lot of things the CPM and CCP has to work on. After all the New EP hasn't even stepped in the office yet so its nearly impossible to see how much more good he can do. I will give a high five for the EP and CCP Wolfman for pushing the new weapon numbers out while you guys can still influence before it patches/locks. |
