First time I played dust... I can't remember because I only played it 2-3 times first off, this was even before I joined Burgezz (I joined Burgezz on MAG in August, so I know it was well over a year ago I began playing). Shortly after joining them on MAG I came back to Dust with a new character, 843-BANE.
At that point I didn't understand the game very much, and it didn't understand itself. I was just enjoying the time spent with my clan. But as I got more into the game I began to understand suits and fittings and what not. I'd often try and run with UltraDeadly (Anyone remember him?) who was and still is my corp mate, because he was able to run full proto and protected me against the enemy's proto gear.
It was then that I realised that I needed to get better to face stronger opponents. I didn't rage or see them as tryhards but I saw them as an obstacle to overcome, something to challenge me, a benchmark from which I could measure my own skills.
I never massively got proto-stomped as I had my own proto gear fairly early on as most did (This was before the reset) and managed to go about my business and do pretty good!
Proto gear doesn't mean you're a scrub, it means you've earned your place in Dust. If you use proto gear and you ARE a scrub, it means you've probably neglected the passive bonuses heavily as they are what makes your gear worth having as I learned from Panoscape (Another 843 vet) pretty early on.
Kids, if you get protostomped, it's a good thing. You'll get there one day. |

Quote:Your not an 'old timer then' when I started geks were amazing and not a single person had proto, no double or triple sp events so proto took ages to get. You had it fking easy with those.
I got into closed beta but my code didn't work so I had to wait for open beta, downloaded it within a minute of it going live, closed beta was a joke anyway unless you enjoyed all that broken sht, the games broken now so I can't imagine how bad closed beta was, skirmish 1.0 sounds beast though.
How are you saying im not an old timer when you werent in closed beta and i was...
Im sorry i got annoyed with the broken build (aka tank dropship build) and took a break and when i came back the best were proto... Trust me i have been in this game longer than you and hated it almost the whole time lol
They should rename it Crack514 cause i cant get off this **** haha
But good to see some other old timers chiming in on the protostomped dayz |

I was one of the fresh chrome scrubs. I guess I picked up the basics quick, I ended up having over a 3.0 kdr just from running militia and STD gear in my first two weeks of playing. First person to ever proto stomp me was Tuff Tone, a heavy in Imperfects.
I can still remember walking around slaying the other MLT users when my crosshair came across a dropsuit I had yet to see on the battlefield yet. I instantly had a gut feeling telling me to run away as what I was looking at could only be described as a gorilla with a minigun. I swallowed my fear and tried to take him on anyway. As soon as I started to shoot him his attention snapped onto me. He didn't waste time as I was on the floor in .5 seconds. This only made me want to play more |

I've played for over a year - I could get proto-suits, but really don't see why. I can rely on my skill (or the fact that I don't care about KDR), and don't need to use Cal Logi CK.0 or somesuch to have fun. |

Well in Chrome all I did was tank. I was pretty average I guess. Me, Lili, and Crowd would run sic as here and there to build up sp. So we didn't do all too bad. We had good teamwork but that was it. What we could never understand was how 3 of us could never beat the real experienced tankers of the day.
My wake up call was in the Battle of the 300 Million when I had to 1 v 1 Hotch Sagaris v Sagaris. Oh my god or was bad. I didn't get stomped in one second like most guys v him, tho, but I got wrecked.
Eventually, I worked my way into PFBHz and studied under Slap and Hotch. That was when Bob and I began to make names for ourselves. It cost a lot to get there. ContraBanJoe gave me almost 80 mil for pub tanka so I could learn my craft up until the Battle of the 300 mil.
But yeah. Learning tanks was hard in Chrome. You were either unkillable or you got smashed by the real tankers in a second. I miss those days. |

I started with Sicas in Chromosome too. I remember I first took them out and the first few games there really weren't any AV or tanks so I thought my standard railgun and militia modules were badass lol. Then I ran into a prototype forgegun and lost it all xD. Then another game I played I ran into a Madrugar and hot whipped; learned to just hold onto my tank unless the enemy team didn't have a tank or AV. I do feel a little bad sometimes, when I kill Sicas and Somas with standard turrets and I know they really are new players (or at least low SP players), I know how it feels lol.
Honestly though I think the reason pubstomping is being brought up now is because in Chromosome it seemed like there weren't as many people on the highest tier so there just wasn't as many pubstomp matches. |

I remember those days when dropships reigned the skies. You couldn't even duck your head out of cover to save you life due in part to the splash damage. That's when I joined my friend as a dropship pilot gunner going 40/0 per match. Oh dear, I had become what I despised. |

Not a vet I guess, been here since open beta, and Ive gotta say stomping was never as bad as it is right now. Havent seen a balanced match for some weeks now. The unneeded excessive force really rustles my jimmies. |

Remember when dropships and missile turret were merciless. You'd have to have a great forge gunner because the ship could outrun swarms on Magnus peak no problem. |

The best I could do against those missile turrets was keep the DS behind cover repping for as much of the match as possible. I was almost always the only actual FG on the map and the rest of my team was all militia swarms. Those were dark days indeed.
But not as bad as having my entire team redlined in ambush by a tank because there weren't even corps yet so everyone was a blueberry. Didn't matter though, I've always had fun in the game. Surprisingly I've had less and less fun as it got more "balanced" which is why I haven't be playing as much lately. |

The twins were great to squad with. Great players. Better people.
