I want to hear every old members memories of when they first started out and how badly they got protostomped and why it is actually a good thing to do because it drives the committed and good players to become great players...
So we will start out with mine...
.....When i first started this game i am a student of the EvE universe so being highly versed in the EvE skilling tree I had no problem managing my way around this skill tree. My character had all the best stats i could give it and I was even good at first person shooters (like CoD and Bf3) having that quick twitch hand muscles making it easy to move target to target and keeping enemies in my sights.
....What i could not figure out for the life of my is why people (back in the day) like toyboi or regynum or protoman could survive facing off versus a whole team when their stats were only slightly higher than mine. At this time i was in On The Brink which in my opinion was not a horrible group but for sure not the best corp out there. Slowly through the help of my OTB friends and studying better gamers i learned how to use this games aiming to my advantage and also how to combine certain elements of my dropsuits that seemed a little outlandish to make a strong, faster, better dropsuit. But this still did not allow me to face off against whole teams. It merely made me able to kill just about anyone 1 on 1 and have a fighting chance against the greats of the time.
.....It wasnt until i randomly one day got to squad with toyboi that i realized the aspect of the game that i was missing that all the greats had. My dropsuit at the time was ofcourse the b-series assault dropsuit. I loved my shields because they were able to recharge fast after i had killed someone. But what i never did was in the middle of a gunfight give them a chance to start recovering before killing my first target, so that when my second target or third or fourth came into the area, I was less weakened then if i had just finished him off right there. This was the missing aspect on how to beast a whole team together... give yourself a second or two to recover because most players in this game run after someone who is damaged rather than licking their wounds and trying to survive another day.
.....The other thing this allowed for was me to be in a better position to finish off these players who chased me around because i was able to use corners to my advantage peaking out and back in when i wanted to not when they wanted me to... This is when i feel like i became someone that wasnt just another pushover and finally could compete.
.....I then went on to get my proto vk.1 suit and fitted it to maximize my survivability to damage ratio and started to earn back my kdr that was soooo damaged from the hard knocks of this game. In using both great strategy and a great suit i was able to push from a 1.34 kdr at 3,500 kills to a 5.46 at 34,000 kills. This is also a way to prove urself and get noticed by the better (or even best) players and make ur way into their corps or alliances like i feel i have recently.
The thing is protostomping is a one sided battle mostly... But in saying that its only a one sided battle for a short period... Eventually the good up and coming players will figure out the strategy to this game and they too will obtain prototype suits with their own tweak on great strategies that can counter you and they too will become a "great" at this game. If we all ran militia to make it even when you start then we would all have a player base like Call of Duty does where 99.9% of the players are casual players who couldnt even tell you what a "route" was and they would be stat boosters for the .1% that was competitive gamers who run routes, push spawns, team cap and it would be pointless.
This game pushes you to better yourself and instead of giving up... figure out what they do that you dont so that you can survive an encounter with them... and maybe with a few friends you can kill them... I promise you killing us once with a standard or militia rifle annoys us but if u get us twice... It will get you noticed and if u get us more than that you will make it onto someones team no matter how few skill points you have.
So lets hear all the other veteran stories of your learning the game while getting protostomped...
Never happend..I was in the first build in closed beta I got zitrostomped if that counts?
