howdy ho,
so I came across this post on Jester's blog. He talks about trying out the Valkyrie game play at Eve Vegas and how awesome it apparently is. He ends with the question how Valkyrie could be tied into current Dust or Eve gameplay.
That got me to start spinning the wheels in my head on the subject and what a future could be with all of CCPs offspring pulling on the same rope.
For Valkyrie, I feel CCP only needs to follow in the same tracks they already made with the release and iterations of Dust.
Release Valkyrie as a stand-alone space dog-fighter on whatever platform (same as Dust). Valkyrie should be easily able to adapt the game modes within Dust for Valkyrie-only style. Just to name a few: -1v1 fights with or w/o asteroids or other installations, - squad fights (4v4 etc), destroy objectives - capture points,etc...
I think where it gets really interesting though is when everything gets finally connected to sovereignty. To push the interplay, CCP could utilize and adapt the tiered sovereignty we currently have in Eve but serves no real purpose other than for payouts or Capital Ship construction (as far as I know).
Tier 1 - Eve only (basically as is currently) Tier 2 - Eve/Dust (Dusties capture planet districts to render Eve Station vulnerable despite Eve reinforced timers). Tier 3 - Eve/Dust/Valkyrie (same as Tier2 + Valks fight over capture points controlling warpgate status and/or cynojammer).
At this point you, we may also have Dusties controlling orbital defense weapons targeting ships in Eve...think the commander being like a POS gunner, just WAY bigger, a ring of iron full of guns shooting things in Eve. (And those weapons/orbital installations would have to been built by somebody of course...) Can you imagine a Dust 32vs32 match fighting instead over clone numbers or damage to MCCs you affect the on-or off-lining of a cynojammer? Thus affecting Eve fights directly?
Your Valkyrie squads could fight over convoys or warbarges ferrying clones, weapons and supplies your Dusties need for planetary invasion or boarding actions.
anyway, this post started as a comment but went on longer than I thought. I just love the potential of what CCP developed here. My biggest frustration with CCP is the appalling lack on emphasing the unique sandbox character for their games. So far, almost every add shows Dust to be just like any other fps. And you cannot compete with dedicated fps like CoD or Battlefield if you look like Dust. and you shouldn't need to, the style of gameplay is what draws and keeps most people in New Eden.
Butterfly effect is still THE add that encapsulates for me what CCPs games are all about. A beautiful, vast and chaotic scifi game that thrives on player-driven game content.
anyway, just another 0.02 isk for the house looking forward hearing some of your ideas what the future might hold... |
