I already know the veterans heard it before & could care less. I played this game via ps3 i& i'm a free player whom is mute. This is my honest findings going on week two. Running as my heavy lvl 2 basic amar suit with HMG pardon my grammer from here to there.
1. As a heavy even in prime conditions (a) being crouched out of direct line of sight and guarding a narrow hall or entrance is about the only way I can find usefulness of anything to do with the HMG or the basic heavy Suit since i'm lvl 2 i was about to commit total Retardation by selecting lvl for the cool sounding COMMANDO SUIT>...<
Not funny Do you as the Devs know heavy's i personally thought should at least be able to hold their ground against mediums & lights in close quarters haha well I got news for you not if your carrying a HMG and not crouching... Because that spit ball singer couldn't hit a cow if its not standing still & i bet not in the same place twice with 425 rounds then.
2. I know you can say you are a noob it happens like this till you get better all you want. i got knifed in a heavy.. Thats just wrong that should be like trying to stick a butcher knife through just 1 plat of current NATO stand issue Kevlar 1 front or back plate carried current & mainly by us army infantry see how that works out..
3. I have played many rounds of factions & Public I gotta say first to hell with *fused locust grenades* as well as most proto gear i think.. I get greased bye so many people with golden stamped weapons & suits i lost count of which about it i dislike the most the fact those armors as a newer free player even in heavy crouched "milita naded "them kicked spit punched begged them to die... i wonn't even tell you how that turned it till we all have a laugh together about how my next point. in hand...
4. Golden guns backed by the situation with the guys or girls above. Their weapons assault rifles 2 or 3 shots clone down...Even facing off 1 vs 1 is conditions prime in my favor crouched narrow area its almost always suicide not that the same out come wouldn't happen when facing another player sporting double gold not matter what weapon or suit but a golden assault rifle you can wipe out an entire squad with even if you wore it with militia armor suits i mean the silver Gek are nasty creatures but wow.. common man & i won't even bother saying thing other then Duval that speaks for its self.
I don't mind losing & i don't mind taking a spanking hey somebody has got to lose bur i don't like knowing i'm fighting enemies that unless the battle genie grants my rabbit foot rubbing ass one wish that some one orders a orbital strike on their Immortal ( arse) <==hillbilly slang*
5 And LaST some of these tanks & vehicles can't be killed and the ones that keep running in & out of the red line. Really Really how the heck do you grease those guys with a forge gun team with lots of nanito or something like that producing lots of ammo How do you deal with that?
I really think you Devs have a lot of loyal players here both from Eve & Dust & i could have been one of them & might could be some day i like the concept of two games tied together but this too me & i mean no disrespect to other gamers i'm drooling for a good fps i can run i wished i had a rig strong enough to run PS2 aye but my poor notebook i get 0-10 fsp ;...(
Dust has a lot of potential to unit many gamers on many consoles , computers & game fronts you Devs need to start playing the game you made as a new player here lately for giggles act like a free player using only isk gear you will even have the luxury of being able to join a squad as back up face some golden guns ,suits or some AUR fused locust a lot of golden i face is most likely aur gear i just lack the knowledge off hand to know the difference.
I just don't think you Devs listen even to your paid players much less you free players but try playing as one maybe you then offer me some advice till then man i dunno i'll be playing some dead space series or CoD. Thanx for the Community whom looks after the players Far better and answers more questions then the Dev teams Thanks Again to the Players that are trying to build this little community.
The game feels kinda broke or unbalanced to me thats my Rant. and judging by how a few younger players on here speak to others i'm sure i will get to read something funny but i feel as a active gamer these are some valid points . flame on. |

Well your problem was you decided to go Heavy + HMG. Arguable the most useless class in DUST atm.
Second mistake, I'm guessing you tried playing this game solo. If so, then you'll get your **** pushed in allot. Even while playing with a squad a win is not guaranteed, but at least you'll get some laughs out of it.
This game is not meant for new players sadly. Matchmaking is still not working well from what I've been hearing, and new players have NO CHANCE, ZERO CHANCE, to catch up to vets that have 20+ million SP.
Don't know why new players have a cap on their SP at this point. They should start off with 5 million SP at least, and 1 chance to respec.
But what do I know? ... I'm a lowly player that's been here since last year May. |

Keep at it man, it gets better once you get with the right group and the game becomes a lot more fun. If you're new you couldn't have wasted that much SP on heavy yet, get a FG those things are nasty on high ground. |

I'd hate to say it but this game is not "newbie" friendly unless you go AR assault or sniper... =\
Rolling HMG Heavy pretty much requires you to squad up and have a dedicated logi bro to survive, it's how I do it and honestly by myself it is simply too much trouble (unlike the old days a year ago in beta where I could solo-play a heavy with a good deal of map knowledge and critical thinking).
I do hope you "stick it out," but if you do go dedicated HMG Heavy you are pretty much going to die if you are alone, they are currently more urban force multipliers (when used correctly) that need squad support, so find a corp that is happy with you just listening, or go join squads and hope to tag along...
It is an uphill battle, and I understand your pain, but an advanced sentinel with logi support is a beautiful feeling!
EDIT: Also, stay out of FW and only play public unless you are squadding up, or are a masochist. I personally recommend Skirmish Public for lone heavies. |

Look at it like this, no matter what class or playstyle you choose to pursue, you are gonna take some beatings. Actually a lot of beatings, for a while. It sucks to say but it is what it is. But stick with it, don't give up. The more you play, the better you get and more importantly, the more SP you get.
AUR gear is meaningless. It's just the same crap you can buy with ISK, just usable at lower levels. Just be patient, don't spend your money on that. Play for a bit longer, and if you see yourself sticking around for a bit, grab some SP boosters.
This is probably one of the roughest games to be a noob in, but work through it. Once you hit that breakthrough (around 3-5 million SP) things get a lot better, and like the rest of us you will wear your time as a noob like a badge of honor. Just be patient, keep your balls on the prize, and don't give up. |

Well, I think assault with an AR is supposed to be the starter class. The starter suits and skill point requirements support this thought. Any new player specializing into a scout or a heavy will have quite a tough time, they are not easy roles, but pick assault or logi and they will learn the game and not be so frustrated.
I started as an assault, still am, but I have now started with a logi suit and enjoy scouts as well. I have core skills and I know the game, so me being in a scout suit is not actually bad. Both scout and heavy requires a ton of SP too. All scout skills (speed, hacking, dampening etc.) are very expensive skills, all heavy related skills have high pre-requirements (level 5 dropsuit to unlock heavy suits, level 5 weaponry to unlock heavy weapons) so you actually cannot even start with these suits. A new player in MLT heavy or scout suit without core skills is a dead player.
IGÇÖm not saying heavies or scouts donGÇÖt need buffs, IGÇÖm just pointing out that they are more specialized and the game kind of pushes you to start with something easier. ThatGÇÖs probably the reason new players canGÇÖt pick a role when creating a character anymore.

1. The Heavy is definitely under powered. I die to them occasionally, but cannot remember the last time I died to one outside of 10m. The rounds fly in all directions other than the target while you get gunned down. I usually die within those 10m with my SMG against a HMG, but anything beyond that is a 50/50 chance of victory for me.
The Commando suit isn't very useful. Mediocre health, slow and with no slots/two slots for modules.
2. Knives can go through Kevlar. Obviously, a Heavy has plating but the enemy used Nova Knives, which are not butcher knives. Knives are hard to use effectively and are thus not seen much. I've died only a handful of times to knives and all of them were from behind, where any sidearm could've killed me. Most knife users stack on knife damage modifiers, which means they have little to no room for speed boosters or armor.
Its name derives from the heated plasma edge of the blade - formed by a thermic igniter and linear gravity condenser - that, in skilled hands, can be used to carve through even the thickest dropsuit armour. GÇô CCP.
3. Proto gear is pretty powerful, especially when coupled with all the core skills proto users have usually built up. Grenades tear through Heavies like a hot knife through butter since they move too slowly to really evade them and explosives do more damage to armor.
4. The Duvolle only does 10% more damage than the normal Assault Rifle. However, Duvolle players usually have proto (or gold, as you call them) damage modifiers and damage boosting proficiency skills. After everything, they can easily deal 50% more damage than a normal Assault Rifle user. It takes less than two seconds to kill a militia Heavy at that point. Even faster with headshots.
5. Vehicles are hit and miss. If no one uses Swarm Launchers and Forge guns, it'll live forever. If one of two guys pull out said weapons with some SP behind them, they can take out most vehicles extremely quickly. Beginner players don't spec into AV because they want to spec into normal weapons, so vehicles are pretty deadly in public games.
All in all, I'd say take a break from the game while logging in every day and come back in two or three weeks. You'll have built up another 500k SP and you can spec into something else. Go with either Assault or Logistics suits. Once you're in a standard racial suit, I'd work on getting Handheld Weapon Upgrades 3 so you can use Enhanced Damage Mods. Use militia shield extenders until then. Two of those is almost a 10% damage boost. Fill the rest of your slots with normal armor plating. If you can't fit it, upgrade the core skills that say they increase suit CPU or PG by 5% until you can. Work on the core skills you think you'll need and coast to advanced suits.
For equipment, I recommend Compact Nanohives, which require Nanocircuitry 2. Cheap to buy, cheap to fit and can heal your armor if you place one at your feet. Flee often and heal for a long life. |
