I went into skirmish the other day. I was using my Gallente Logistics suit, with like 702armor and 200shields. Anyway half way through the match I found myself hacking "A" in the underground silo area. As I began hacking I had a few hit markers pop up, stop, then again. He had taken all 200 of my shields away with 1 clip. When I turned around, I assumed firing position as if I were going to encounter a proto suit, with officer weapons. Instead what I found was this little guy. He was wearing his little miltia suit with all 200armor and 200shields. He was trying so hard to fight for his team, trying to do his best with what he had. He hopped up and down and ran in circles, often losing sight of me and forgetting where he was. He tried to cook a grenade and almost committed suicide in the process. At that point I had a decision to make, drop him in a fraction of a second or run away and give him a sense of importance. I couldn't bring myself to kill him. I ran away. I then invited him to my squad and tutored him. I show him what dropsuit to skill into, what weapons are "OP" this month, and how to increase his chances of survival in a match. The point of this post is to ask a favor of all you guys out there that have been playing for months on end now. It's not necessary to slaughter every newby out there. Give them a fighting chance if you want Dust's player base to grow. It is our responsibility to teach and welcome new players, not eat them alive. If there is a new guy running militia and is trying to run away from you, don't be an a** and chase him down. Instead, grow a pair of ball* and pick on someone your own level. |

It's easy to forget that all the noobs aren't just Bitter Vets on their alt characters. I mean, the forums would have you believe that there are no new players. Just Vets on the verge of quitting.
Your actions are definitely commendable. We need more people like you if this game is going to survive it's growing pains. |

your a good man charlie brown.
when I went back to academy for some dropship toon fun I refused to kill the redberrys. my reason wasn't nearly as noble, I just wanted to get all my sp from transport assists. time and time again I would redline their health and simply wait for them to realize that they needed to run away and nurse their wounds. the toon graduated academy with 1 kill (he pissed me off I'm sorry). |

If new players could learn one thing, it is to swarm as a group. It doesnt matter how great of a gun game or suit you may have, if you are being swarmed by 5 red dots all firing militia, you may kill a few but you will die. The bad side to swarming is orbitals, they would die in mass. My suggestion is to swarm in groups of 5-6 and attacking different points at all times. Also new guys I cant stress the importance of uplinks. Spec into them and help your team as you will reap the WP. |

Well played, Big Burns. +1
That's exactly how you retain players and build a solid gaming community. Pretty close to how I was recruited a long time ago as well. I've found that hooking up with new players is often a great way to help them out through the rough spots of the learning curve and I've pulled in more than a few to either Corp or Alliance that are still here playing.
I'll squad with you anytime or hope to see you as redberry...either way will be good to fight against you.

Most people in new eden are actually incredibly nice, as long as you don't stand there and ERHMAGERD RAGE at them. I got jumped by pirates and after paying my ransom and picking the brain of the camp leader/bait they invited me to their corp just to teach me some piratey things, and how to avoid lowsec ganks. |
