CCP - thank you for the survey letting us express what we want out of the game and so you can gauge our take on some of your ideas. If this is the result of the new EP, please share our thanks with him.
We hope you continue to do these surveys, and that they are expanded on in the future to include more about the game bot in general and more specific.
Sincerely, Me. |

It honestly makes me a little sad that some people won't take the survey seriously.
Things like this are valuable tools for a company to use. And sifting through BS surveys is one of the most frustrating things in the world. |

Agreed. I've had to sort though BS answers when researching in college.
The survey definitely has some holes as to what they are asking, but it is a good start and gives us an idea of what CCP is considering and let's us weigh on it. It isn't the end all and be all, but it is a good start. |

O I agree with you the first survey was better then this one. I got the vibe that they are putting a premium subscription. What do you think about that |

I wasn't comparing this to previous surveys - just that it is nice to be asked in a formal way what my thoughts and opinions are.
I won't comment as to the rest because of the blurb where we agreed not to share information at the beginning of the survey. |

As long as the subscription isn't gamebreaking and completely **** on anyone that doesn't have premium (I'm looking at you battlefield) I'll be fine with it.
Anything to increase revenue will (possibly) speed up production.
Either that or fund more of CCP Shanghai's vacations. |

When it asked me what games I was currently playing, I listed EVE Online because it was playing in the background on my work computer, but not Dust since I can't play it at work. Apparently that ended the survey. |

I hadn't heard this, but if true then you are partially correct. A larger portion of the player base should have been included, including inactive players who might provide feedback about why they left the game.
That said, it's not a waste of time entirely. They still get a sample of the population. Remember, most of those "studies" on the news might only poll 100-200 people after all, and they are still relatively accurate. |

The survey was probably sent to people that have been playing for while longer.
There's nothing wrong with that.
You certainly will get more concrete answers that way because honestly, looking on the forums a lot of people have no idea what they are talking about. |

The links appear to be specific to email address it was sent from, and so they will not work for others. When I tried to copy go to it from my laptop I am not able to do the survey again (original survey taken on my iPhone at lunch). |

Up until the point they unceremoniously ended the survey (unless that was supposed to be the last question), they just asked questions about how much money I spend on games, consoles I play, and general marketing BS. They didn't ask a damn thing about the issues with Dust, so it's just a big "how do we squeeze more money out of you" circlejerk market research survey as far as I'm concerned.
Rather than thank them, I'd like to tell them to go copulate with themselves for the waste of time that had no bearing on my experiences, only on their profits. |

Maybe if you had answered the question correctly, you would have seen the Dust specific questions. Just a thought, but it's hard to blame CCP for a user error on your part. |

I answered it correctly. I wasn't currently playing Dust. I'm getting the impression everyone else was lying about whether or not they were currently playing the game, unless they were afk in Merc quarters.
It's not my fault if they can't word a question right. |

Knowing your main demographics is pretty important for marketing, it can even help with development - such as allowing you to prioritize features based on what demographics you want to appeal to the most (as well as finding out what the community wants most, this survey can also tell you what certain demographics want most - which can be quite valuable if you're trying to expand [or even just define] your target audience). |

He is blaming CCP because the survey was ended when he said he didn't play Dust. He thinks it should have continued, stating the question read as if it were asking if he were playing right then as he filled out the survey. He is a troll - please disregard his posts. |

You're missing the larger picture.
How many people have become frustrated with this game and quit playing? It could be over core mechanics, lack of content, speed of updates, or whatever. The AA/hit-detection changes in 1.4 definitely caused some serious attrition. It made people that have played since before launch quit. That's not the only reason people have stopped playing either.
This represents a huge chunk of people with intimate familiarity with Dust and more hours logged with comparative experience of the various iterations than most. These people may have quit a month ago, they may have quit a couple of weeks ago. Do you thinks days worth of real-time experience on 1.5/1.4 is irrelevant now?
What message do you think someone that decided to stop playing Dust a week ago (but still cared enough to open a survey) would indicate when asked if he/she "currently played Dust"? If they're even remotely honest, they'd say "no" - because a survey is your chance to indicate WHY you stopped playing and the issues you have. Instead, they'd be ejected after perfunctory market research questions - insult to injury basically.
So, we have a survey that was generated and sent to players designed to only be completable by people masochistic enough to continue to play the game in its current state. This is what we'd call a skewed sample.
They've done us no favors, and their data will be crap just as their sampling methods, question wording, and so on was. YOU have the gall to thank them for perpetrating this farce. Masochists indeed. |

Perhaps, then, instead oftrolling the thread you would say something like this instead? Instead of providing critical feedback about this, you instead make yourself look silly and stupid to the point that people discount anything you have to say. You lessen your own feedback by attempting to be "cute".
So again, while you think you are being "smart", you are really being like Homer Simpson - you are "s-m-r-t". |

Added thought: perhaps the intended audience of this survey is for current players; perhaps they should do one intended for former players. That would be a good idea as well.
Point is you can criticize it all you want (and that is a good thing when it is constructive like your last post), but it is also good to remember that surveys are aimed at collecting specific data from a specific audience. Also, additional surveys would be good - ones that are aimed at different data and different audiences.
In summary, thanks for the most recent constructive post (even if you went about getting to your point in a very round about and non-constructive way). |
