I was chatting to some supporters of PS2 last night and they were saying that it's going to take a significant hit because everyone's taking a break until it comes out on PS4 next month... good job Dust doesn't have that problem! (lol) |

It really is... Apart from having some good elements (massive battles, open world etc) it fell short on purpose and actual reasoning.
Sure, I could go out with the guys and fight the good fight on the frontline for the next seven hours but for what? To move the frontline forward a bit so it can move right back when I go to sleep tonight? To get a few more BP so I can finally afford that gun/accessory that's not much different than any other one in the game?
I dunno. Game was cool but damn it I like having some goal in mind besides a never ending war that is held back solely by game mechanics. |

Matherson Server is literally so empty you cannot use squad finder or instant battle finders because there is nobody to fight or fight with now a days across all three continents. If we are saying that PS2 is dyeing because it only has 3,363 Avg. Players and 6,495 Peak Players, then what is DUST?

You should look at eve charts and notice similar errors, server api is funny that way. Steam used to report 120k steam players but that was before official launch and the chart been cut off since then. |

Hahahaha no, console gamers cannot handle strategic value of objectives on that scale, they can barely handle three. The game will be ruined within 2 months by the typical idiocy of the average console gamer just wanting to run and gun without a care for anything else, narrow minded thinking ruins games like. |

That is exactly what the game needs. I personally think that the reason the game has more players is that more people have a Steam client than a PS3, but also believe that the reason the game is dying so fast is because of the rampant cheaters and the weak Teamkiller penalties. The game needs to be reworked severely on the moderator and cheat-prevention side of things before it'll ever get back to where it used to be. It's a fun game, don't get me wrong, but there's just no framework to prevent cheating. God-Mode-ers can clip into the main spawn area and not be removed for hours, and the high tech-specs needed to run the game keep people who are on the lower end from wanting to play it. It'ss just really, really, really bad thinking on a decent idea. |

The problems are many and myriad if you ask any PS2 quitter.
There is no high order winning in planetside 2 and its not like its hidden or not well seen or felt or observed there is literally nothing of winning beyond shooting someone not your color.
Dust 514 has at least a high order win that goes well above and beyond that match or play session. How many territories in PC have not been harassed or flipped in months? How many times has a complete shove out of FW playing field has happened since they started letting us pick sides? While to most players these high order wins are not as tangible blowing up a guy's most expensive tank and setting him back 5 matches is quite significant than a guy you just blew up and all he does is just respawn in a tank is back pounding your face in 2 minutes.
Then the maps. Planetside 2 maps are absolute devoid of defensibility. The few maps that were defensible they nerfed to hell and only one map type is left on that list and they're nerfing that next. The current strategy is if the hostiles show up with a significant force just leave the map after the outer perimeter (which is also non existent) fails.
Inversely on the same problem as to why the opposite is just as bad Lattice system which was supposed to force fights wound up backfiring. I have seen an entire divisions before the great wind down just stop turn around and go the other direction on the lattice because they didn't want to deal with a biolab.
The fact the two are both terrible problems means there is an total utter failure in map design.
Balance is still an issue, Zealot Maxes still mow through everything, most popular selling guns seem to be target of nerfs continuously. Effective strategies for small squads nerfed to require an small army to make the weapon in question useful again.
Outfits have no benefits outside of social interaction.
Player progression in planetside 2 is absolutely horrendous.
In the same time it took me to get my 4th gun in planetside 2 (the camera guided launcher which has about a 20% fail rate where the launched had no fuel or a camera, first being a replacement gauss rifle for the heavy, and assault since the default weapons on both are extraordinary terrible even in hallway shooting.) The system over encourages buying also unlocks on one class do not carry over to all classes or even on the same class (why do I have to cert both left and right arm weapons?)
I have done the following in the same amount of time in Dust 514 and most of this was before login bonus was added.
Unlocked every gun type Unlocked every module type Unlocked every basic suit type Unlocked every specialist suit type Maxed out skills applicable to all fits and weapons. Unlocked every Vehicle type Unlocked every Turret type Unlocked every Vehicle module and enough SP to buy whatever new suits and guns coming out. My next month is getting advanced weapons. |

Mag was simple as fk, mag didn't have about 50 objective points and may didn't have absolutely huge maps. |

It was hard enough for randoms
Take the Bunkerline out Grab the 1st set of BO towers Grab the 2nd set Fight at the pumps
Most randoms went straight for the BO for a full 30mins, great if your soloing because FRAGO pts everywhere and revives while picking off the enemy |

IMO, Destiny is going to have the same problems as Borderlands but on a larger scale. Borderlands was cool - shoot **** and loot ****. Problem with it was that the progression was a little lack luster, imo, having to run across an entire map several times in order to complete arbitrary "kill ten of these" quests that were only made colorful because of the comedic factor in the characters.
Take out that comedic factor and you've got a level-based shooter that involves quests, running around the map doing arbitrary and bland tasks that aren't very involving for the sake of getting to a higher level... to get better gear... to get to a higher level... to get better gear.
Tie in that previously mentioned leveling system and you've got a major problem as all of your friends now have to get to similar level as you do, which by the time they do that you'd have hit whatever the level cap is and made a new character to try out a different playstyle.. Rinse, wash, repeat. These aren't problems that are new to the MMO world, they've persisted ever since the early days in games like Everquest.
Sure, you can make a new character and work -with- them to get them to that point but you'd have to do that -for every single friend that joins you-. That's not good gaming, imo. Repeating the same storyline progression over and over loses it's appeal after the first or second time because at that point it becomes routine, the creativity and immersion aspects aren't there anymore not that immersion ever really is in a multiplayer game, sorry but something that's supposed to be scary isn't nearly as scary as it could be when Johnny Nobody is bunny hopping in place saying he's Donnie Darko.
All in all, Destiny looks like it would be a -KILLER- single player game or co-operative game but you can't expect me to enjoy the scenery and backdrops that someone worked their ass off on when my party is wanting to press forward and get more loot. Nyx the graphics and story elements and you're left with a shooter-looter.
This isn't necessarily saying that Destiny is a bad game, it's actually a really cool concept but I think they're trying to appeal to the wrong crowd. FPS players usually have a short attention span with a low degree of patience, good graphics are cool and all but when the bullets start flying it's not something high on your priority list. A terrible looking game can still be fun if there's good game mechanics behind it (Minecraft being a prime example). Destiny, to me, just doesn't look like something I want to put up with, asking for 'x' years of my time in order to see everything the game has to offer isn't something I find enjoyable. At least in Dust 514 a new player can make himself useful by putting a few points into Nanohives/Active Scanners without needing a guide. |
