one of the main problems with grenades is that a merc can go from firing a two handed weapon to throwing a grenade in an instant. this cant happen in a tactical shooter as it cheapens gameplay. better design should require us to shoulder our weapon and actually equip a grenade to use it.
this could free up L2 for a solid tactical feature like target painting in regards to pesky snipers, rooftop forge guns and other enemies in obscure places to warn your teammates about. Give mercs +10 when the target they painted is killed. painting should last about 20 seconds and should only be on one person, turret or vehicle at a time. |

I'd like to mention that painting targets and setting defense/capture orders is already available if you hold r2 and push r3 for an alternate wheel. I also had the same exact thoughts as you because I noticed players having trouble with squad orders and how grenades can be used too easily in any situation.
What they should add to the L2 wheel is an option to set all the different types of orders on the top half and have another set of request for yourself on the bottom. The bottom would contain defend me, rally on me, ammo request, repair request, and request for ride.
It would slow down the game slightly, but I think the ability to communicate without voice chat and making grenade use more realistic will really help this game. |

Not sure about the target painting, there's plenty of other useful functions I could think of using that extra button for. But I fully agree with equipping grenades. |

Grenades should never be equipped. I'm thankful we're past the days where you have to manually equip grenades in every game. It's always slow and cumbersome and ruins any combat fluidity.
Also, having 1 active scanner in a squad can highlight anyone within a 100m radius with a basic one. And up to 200m for the proto creodron flux active scanner. It should be enough to highlight anyone. |

It's slow and cumbersome for a reason.
So people can't just through nades everywhere without consequence.
Switch to nades, can't shoot at enemies for a second before you switch back to your gun. And vice versa. |

Grenades are a valuable tool and so a merc would make them easy to grab and throw. It just makes sense.
Also, making something slow and cumbersome on purpose is bad game design. The real problem with the current grenade spam is that it's a lot easier to get kills with than most other weapons (bar the MD which is just grenade spam in tube form). Just radically reduce the radius in which the grenade can deal lethal damage so you have to literally be standing on it, but increase the radius it can wound so it can be used to soften up targets before taking them out with another weapon. |

I think he means that other people in the squad can also paint targets, so you can say, hey squad lead call the orb here, and paint a target for them. |

yes, exactly what i meant. a tactical game needs the ability for players to say watch out for this tank or this sniper and highlight them if necessary. |
