Why not have drugs be timed consumables instead? |

Actually, I was thinking of normal consumables from your inventory.
There's a wide range of things boosters could affect. Sprint speed, stamina, stamina recovery, and melee power seem like logical choices along with the repair rates mentioned in the OP. They could also get crazy and have a booster that hardens up your suit to resist explosive damage at the expense of shields. I think/hope that's the type of thing they would have personal drones do, but if not, boosters baby.
If boosters had the potential to be overpowered, they could ban them in public battles. You risk faction standing loss in EVE if the cops see you with them in your cargo in hi sec, the same principle could apply.
On the EVE side, gas harvesting has become much easier with the venture mining frigate and booster prices reflect it. That would be an area of the market where EVE can easily feed into DUST and have a positive effect on the overall economy. |

+1
Boosters in your grenade slot could be a fair gameplay tradeoff, and much simpler than what I posted above. One booster per dropsuit fitting would help whatever market they would have for boosters, too. The booster time would be much shorter and one-time use. You probably wouldn't even need a drawback effect, although something like a shield hp drop would make sense.
Imaging getting stuck in a corner and popping a 5-second explosive damage immunity pill as a grenade goes off at your feet, then running up and blasting the guy who threw it. I like it. |
