Hello guys
It has been stated there might be some changes to factional warfare in the future that will make players get LP instead of gaining ISK. This as I have seen has been taken in as a possible bad idea. The thing is that we are not taking in mind that the new Executive Producer has player trade in mind.
"Features such as player trade, valuable resources transferable and useable between DUST and EVE, and new game modes that capture the sandbox nature of our game, are all building blocks towards that vision. We will be revealing more details at EVE Vegas later this month, followed by in-depth articles, developer blogs, and more."
This change to factional warfare should be seen as giving a deeper basis for player trade other than OMG, this guys got 3 Thales on sale let me snatch them up. These items, as you know, are officer items and their rarity is, by their nature, high. So what will factional warfare actually do. It will make an active way to actually acquire goods that are trending in the market therefore more interactions and entrepreneurship chances. This means more isk for the person willing to grind LP to be able to acquire said goods and put them on market.
For you guys to understand how this would work, I'll explain how this works in eve. There are four factions, this you know, but each faction only produces things that are made from their tech. So for example Amarr will never sell minamatar ships. A person with the amarr faction that enjoys having amarr toys can have rare amarr treats like special ships that can only be obtained by fighing for the amarr, these ships have special stats or bonuses that give it a "one up" over their standard counterpart.
"But I don't care about eve, I care about dust." Right you are, and this is why you should be happy. While making FW give you LP, CCP opens a plethora of item options, even if they are not initially in game. CCP will eventually open up player trading so it's up to the player to research and decide what weapon, suit, item, etc they want to buy hence which faction they want to fight for or if they are lazy or dont want to fight for the amarr but do want to use lazors buy it from someone that actually does amarr FW.
For further explanations I will have to give an example. Lets say player trading has opened and it has, as I would expect the same structure as the market in eve, with all it's charts and graphs designed to tell the player which item is selling and at what rate from what dates etc, etc, ect. You as a merc ( fighting for the highest bidder) find out that it's more profitable to buy and sell federation plasma cannon because they are selling like hot cakes. You go into Factional warfare and work towards getting good standing with gallente so you can participate on their behalf. You do 10 battles and have acquired a decent number of LP. You go ahead and trade them for 100 federation Plasma cannons. Now these are selling for 60k a pop because of how hard and rare of a commodity they are to get. So you put them up on market and sell them in one week and make 6 million isk. That could be way more than you would make by just getting 290 k per match which would be roughly half of the profit.
Now I'm not saying that it will necessarily be the way I pictured It. But as one that knows How LP has created a booming market and a higher number of billionaires in EvE, I would suspect that, Factional items such as say Republic assault mass driver with expanded clip or a Tribal assault Sub-machine gun, would become available and be very profitable for those doing minmatar factional warfare.
This will also have a side effect of making factional warfare be more homogenous. Since weaponry is an integral part of the game. People will surge to the faction that sell their prefered weapon, suit, etc. just to be able to have it available. You will aslso have those that enlist in a particular fction because of how lucrative a certain Item of their faction is.
TL;DR
Don't be too hasty in judging the factional warfare changes. These will possibly help make a better and more lucrative market than just selling those Thales we have stocked up that we don't use as well as give us more powerful option on how to kill each other and still make a profit.
Not all LP stores will sell the same thing therefore people warring for different factions will always have a product to sell that the other faction does not offer having an immense potential for gaining huge amounts of isk. |
