CCP live streamed the EVE Vegas 2013 event on Twitch TV Saturday 19th of October in which they held a lecture on GÇ£Dust 514: Past Present & FutureGÇ¥ at 21:00 UTC. In this lecture they spoke about the how the game had been developed, what the current game mechanics are and what they are looking to for in their GÇ£road mapGÇ¥.
Just incase for those of you who missed the live steam or didn't take notice of the upcoming changes and implementations that were spoke about, I took note of all of the things mentioned for your reading pleasure. If I have missed out on anything please drop it in the comments below.
- All racial gear to be released soon (not SOONGäó) hopefully 1.8
- BPO are not safe!
- New cloaking system/ability. - This has been asked for by the community for awhile for an active cloaking module for dropsuits, but nothing more have been said on the matter.
- Revamped NPE (New Player Experience)
- Market 2.0 - They gave a screenshot of what this will look like and in the words of George Takei: GÇ£Oh MyGÇ¥ did it look good! Also included a new tab for Factional Warfare items.
- Player market - meaning it will be no longer all NPC controlled; weGÇÖll be able to sell items for the prices we see fit...... which is great for the meta game!
- New items for the Loyalty Point store for Factional Warfare
- Player Trading - This is pretty self explanatory I think.
- Through the use of AURUM a player can gain increased: standing, Loyalty Points and ISK per match within Factional Warfare. - I think this should be removed, as this seems very much like Pay to Win IMO.
- EVE pilots will get added Loyalty Points and gain kill mails for successful Factional Warfare orbitals.
- Planetary Conquest 2.0 - A completely reworked system for more balance and a more GÇ£hardcoreGÇ¥ experience.
- Clone packs will be changed so you actually have to load up a Warbarge (at a station) with MCCGÇÖs and clones and then either get a EVE pilot to actively pilot the clones to the desired plannet. Once there youGÇÖll have to GÇ£anchorGÇ¥ the warbarge above the planet. (Multiple Warbarges could be anchored and thus blobbing a planet with x amount of Warbarges) :D
- Orbital artillery on the plants will be able to shoot an anchored Warbarge to destroy it. Im guessing youGÇÖll have to own that district which has the Orbital Artillery.
- Moving PC to null sec (player own space) and claim Sovereignty (owning whole sectors of space)
- New end of match screens. - Extra added statistics and for Factional Warfare will show the current state of the planet and region captured, both for Dust and EVE sides. This is great so we can see how much we are affecting each other.
- No signs for other gaming platforms for Dust, though they contradicted this in another lecture.
- Free roaming!
Phew quite a lot of stuff there to take in, I know its a tad messy and IGÇÖll try to link in the relevant threads on each topic when I get the time to do so! Also if you would like to watch the lecture yourself IGÇÖll be linking the video as soon as they post the it on their youtube page. Anyway thats all what I managed to see what they were planning to do in the future.
What features are you looking forward to most? What has got you most excited? What do you not like about these ideas? Let the discussions begin! |

The amount of people at the Dust presentation and the Q&A was hilarious.
How many times they mentioned that there are tons of PS3 out there, so they focus on PS3 only? Way to fall behind, CCP. Good job. So many PS3's out there yea, just no one gives a damn about Dust. One can have dreams however, I like it. That presentation was a slap in the face, probably took 15 minutes to set up.
FYI that event is not annually held CCP thing. Its more for the EVE poker community meeting up at vegas. They have been doing this for like 3 years now without a CCP presence. So yeh I guess you could say it was slapped up in 15 mins....

Roy Xkillerz wrote: Other point. Why not combine free roaming with PVE areas and mining?
Shakes head in disappointment that you would even consider mining in Dust, its boring enough in space!
Sam Tektzby wrote:1.8 ..ehm.. i saw this before already it was 1.5 and patching time and there will be another patch and another and ever and ever and ever.. still just promises, i dont se proper progress, just tinking with mechanics, nerfing buffing, patching, patching, boosting, nerfing and patching oncemore and everything withou any progress in already broken game.
What you said there is pretty much how successful games work, GÇ£tweaking mechanics, nerfing, patching, boosting and patchingGÇ¥. If Dust was released as a full complete title it would get rather boring and we (the players) wouldn't be able to get the game we wanted to play from our input to CCP. I mean; they have been doing the same thing with EVE Online for 10 years! Have faith my son!
Wilhelm Klingspor well remembered, I did forget to add in the bits about the Scout and Heavy suits! And updated, +1

But I know hopefully one day we'll look back and think, wow, dust used to be terrible thank goodness we're past that era ... I don't think you realise how CCP designs games. Dust won't ever be "finished", just like Eve is never finished. They will always add features. And yes, that means not all features will be there from the start. Hell, there are things in Eve that NO ONE even thought about when the game first came out.
I don't think the majority of the player base understand this, as they have been so used to console games being fully released and GÇ£finishedGÇ¥ apart from the here and there (expensive) DLCGÇÖs. |

Skihids wrote:Weren't portable shield bubbles promised "very soon" a couple months ago in a dev blog?
Did they mention it in their talk, or has it disappeared?
I don't think they mentioned it in a dev blog as such, just as something they were looking to implement as per community request.
And no, its wasnt mentioned in the lecture. |

Ah my bad, good find! Maybe it has been scraped or is being reworked. Seeing as the Tactical Laser Strikes (OBGÇÖs from EVE pilots) can destroy CRUGÇÖs and installations, you can be safe to say the shield bubble won't give you enough protection from an OB like they stated and if it did; they could easily withstand any damage from anything being fielded on the burn zone and thus would be OP.
I guess will will just have to see. |
