I've only very recently been involved in PC, but when it comes to tanking, it is a whole nother ball field. So I have constantly been reworking my fits to find the best combinations. I've really branched out and used things I never even thought of using in the Pub matches.
When it comes to a Gunnlogi, do not try to go toe to toe with a Maddie. I've learned this very early on into tanking, but I notice some gunnlogi's try to go toe to toe while running a blaster. And they get blown up, go figure huh. When it comes to taking out tanks; Range, Tactics and Speed are key, which brings me to my first fit.
Super speed Rail sniper -
High slots Light shield extender Heavy Heal 15% shield amplifier Heatsink II Nitro
Low slots 7/7/7% Pg upgrade 10% damage mod
Turrets Compressed proto rail 2 small missile turrets
A glass cannon in the truest sense. I sacrifice a resistance mod in place of a Speed booster, which is what I rely on for survival. I really like this setup for tank busting or dropping dropships.
Typically, dropships are called in first, before tanks. There was a bit of a misunderstanding in a few of my matches, and I called this tank in first. Immediately I rush to their MCC, dropping an enemy dropship from the sky before it made it near the objective, then I dropped a second before it lifted off. Finally they called in a 3rd, which I also dropped right away. Being that I am at their redline, and a tank is moving up to my position, I pull back with my speed booster. Tank moves to chase, I drop him as he follows.
Well this is where they call in a rail, who sets up on a high ridge. I'm chilling at an objective and take fire, speed booster on, identify the threat, return fire. It's a maddie, so it takes quite a few shots to push him back, but my speed clearly disrupted his ability to come close to hitting me consistently. I'm also using structure to block his line of sight, hitting him from different positions.
The speed gets you around the battlefield, allows you to dodge incoming forge or rail strikes, and packs a hellva punch. I'm really big on speed and mobility, but I do have a fit on the opposite end of the spectrum.
Heavy blaster setup-
High slots Heavy supplemental extender Heavy Heal x2 ward shield amplifier Shield hardener
Low slots x2 PG upgrades
Turrets Adv Scattered blaster Small Missiles
Never have I been a fan of shield hardeners, with a 10 second active time and a 30 second Cooldown period, they hardly provide much time and take far too long to come back up.

Vulpes Dolosus wrote:For your blaster fit, what heavy extender and booster are you fitting? Protos or supplemental? I'm having trouble fitting two heavy mods pg wise, even with proto pg boosters. What's the minimum core skills required?
Here's my current fit: --: 3 light azeo extenders, heavy clarity ward booster, nitro; -: pg booster passive, heat sink; turrets: sm missiles; std blaster (can fit higher, but to advanced I think, but I don't have the skills yet)
I'm using a supplemental heavy extender and a Clarity ward booster. x2 15% Pg boosters. Plus my PG skill is at level 4, luckly this fit isn't too CPU heavy. What I really don't like about your setup is the lack of resistance mods.
I also run a glass cannon fit for my blasters, where I use 1 light azeo extender and a heavy heal, rest are resistance mods and a speed boost. Don't worry about a heat sink, use your speed to maintain range and mobility over your opponent.
Mitigation is key early on in tanking, which is a combination of your Healing, Resistance, and Total HP.
Don't forget resistance! It is key to survival! |

Okay, so newb question: why?
Blasters do more damage to shields than armor, armor tanks have more HP and better reps. Oh, and they are faster. There is almost no situation where a blaster Shield tank is not going to get pounded by a Madrugar in a 1 v 1.
Said it all right there.
A heavy fit rail maddie, can easily outlast a similar fit gunnlogi as well. Which is why I like the speed to dodge shots, rather then trying to out tank the maddie.

There is almost no situation where a blaster Shield tank is not going to get pounded by a Madrugar in a 1 v 1. mmmkay... Seems like there are really two separate issues there. Because in theory, a madrugar coudl be fit with any turrent. Are you presuming madrugars are usually fit with blasters? So on the one hand, there's "blaster vs armor = bad". Then there's "shield def against blaster = bad". What if you have specialized in shield tank, but you particularly want to take out a madrugar with one. What's the recommendation? Have a missile turret fit handy?
Currently, there is a balance issue between the 2 tanks.
Healing Shield heals last for 15 seconds, pulsing every 3 seconds. So every 3 seconds you heal.
Maddies heal last for a full minute, and are currently not working as intended. They heal far far more then they should, and far more than a gunnlogis heal. __________________________________________________________________________________________________ Resistance There are 2 types of resistance mods. An active and passive. Both tanks have their own versions.
-Passive is basically always on, and provide smaller resistances compared to the active. -Active on the other hand must be activated in battle and last for a given duration.
The active hardener for armor(the best one) last for a full minute, 15 second cooldown. 25% resistance
The active hardener for shields, lasts 10 seconds, with a 30 second cooldown. 30% resistance
Both passive resistance mods give 15% (pretty sure they are equal).
What happens is an armor tank can stack 2 or 3 active hardners, and simply cycle through as the cooldown is only 15 seconds. So with 2 on they have 50% resistance(Diminishing returns does not allow you to reach this but this is just for example).
Lets contrast this with the shield version of hardeners and say 60% with 2 equipped. Though with such a short active window of 10 seconds, coupled with the 30 second cooldown, they provide far far less resistance. As if you only use hardeners, there will be a time when you actually are at 0% resistance waiting for the cooldown to come up. Very vulnerable.
So a Maddie can reach a higher overall resistance then a shield tank, coupled with a higher acceleration and top speed. _________________________________________________________________________________________________ HP Maddies armor plates give more overall HP compared to shields Extenders. Though the draw back to armor is a decrease in speed as the armor slows you down. I've tested this with an armor buddy and even though he is showing a point less in speed, it easily out runs my clunky ass gunnlogi.
I know it sounds crazy, but a maddie is simply better in every category.
The way it is supposed to work is the gunnlogi is your hit and run tank. You don't stick around for too long, but you are able to take far more damage in a short time compared to a maddie. This would ring true if we were actually faster then the maddie, and our resistances were higher. __________________________________________________________________________________________________ Maddies are supposed to be your slow moving long term engagement tanks. They can take a beating and keep on trucking. Though with that bugged heal of theirs, they outlast far beyond what was intended. Basically their heal is supposed to tick every 10 seconds for a minute. I'm not sure on how fast they are healing but they tick far faster then that.
Yes armor takes extra damage against missiles, but actually getting all your missiles to hit your target is tricky. And even then the armor tank can easily catch up to you if you are not using a nitro. But if he is using a nitro himself, then goodluck.
I won't say it's not possible, because I do it quite often. But you have to rely on superior tactics, range, cover, terrain ect.
A fix to this imbalance is supposed to be incoming in the next few months, so just hold on! |

Quil Evrything wrote:Hm. In a way, then, best attack choice solo against a madrugar, would be a plasma cannon from a rooftop. You can nail him with the direct-hit damage (if you're good), and with a nanohive you can keep pounding him, but he will have no LOS to attack you. 'course, probably wont be able to kill him, but you'll at least get him running away like a little girl With two person, o course, just keep pounding him with ADV swarms or better, if you dont happen to have two tanks already handy ;) i
Swarms are the way to go with a Maddie.
