Okay, so the tutorial that has been made up is decent, but it's not very good in terms of getting you exited for Dust. I think it could be done even better (of course, this can do until the heavy problems like vehicles and PVE gets resolved). Here's how I would do it.
So you would Start off in a faction selector screen, similar to the one EVE gives you in the character creation screen. It would have the 4 races to choose from, and videos to tell you about the race that you have highlighted. Once you decide on a race, you press X, then the game will ask if you are sure if you want to pick that character. If you're sure, you would press X again, and the screen would fade.
You would come back in some kind of pod. After a moment, a doctor would come up to you,and say something about you moving to the temporary clone perfectly (I will get to that in a moment). After saying that, he/she will ask if you are a boy or girl, and then your name. After that, he/she will give you a data pad, and say that you can design your body to how you want it to be (this is where the character creation should be). Once that's out of the way, the doctor will ask you if this 'shows body on datapad' is how you want to appear yourself to be, and you can either confirm it, or go and change it. If you confirm it, then the doctor will say that your first clone is being made, and to relax for a moment, then walks off. Then, another person walks in, pulls out a pistol (should be designed after the race that you picked, the Matari would use the SMG), and shoots you in the head. The screen turns to black instantly.
You would wake in a room designed after the race you choose's preferences (ex. Amarr would be covered in nice, gold walls). The person who shot you said that that was your first test or being an immortal: surviving death, and you passed. The person gets you out of the bed, then starts explaining that you're now a merc, and what that means, and what you can do (fight other mercs, missions, manufacture, etc.). He/she also says that since you are new to all of this, he/she will show you the basics (movement the market, etc.), then show you to other teachers that can teach you the advanced stuff (PVP, PVE, mining, etc.), or you can decide that you don't need to know any of that stuff (if you are just making a alt or has learned the game from someone else), in which case takes you straight to the end of the tutorial, in which the basics instructor gives you keys to a small sized merc quarters, and a couple hundred thousand ISK (the starting point). Then, you can go on with your merry little life, as usual.

There's lots of places you could have out of suit areas in. Pleasure hubs (a mix between a strip club in one area, a nitgh club in another, and several bars in between), a actual marketplace (maybe you could have a shop set up in a station so if people want to only buy from a person who they know has specific prices that they like, they could go for that one person), corp/alliance quarters, cities/towns on planets (maybe you could also have marketplaces on busy planets so mercs don't have to return to orbit to get their stuff, as well as picking up missions in the cities, then going out to an open world area to do the missions, mine, etc.), and more. |
