I was thinking about making a heavy alt, but I was a heavy not too long ago, and it seems everyone just evaded my HMG and killed me instantly. Any solutions to my dilemma? Do you suggest the Forge Gun instead? Lemme know!! |

The forge gun is blatantly OP but the only way you're gonna get survivability with the suit is if you brick tank. |

Always stay near somewhere you can fall back too - and spec into LAV's ASAP. Shield variant.
Your first upgrades will be getting ADV suit and ADV HMG - then damage mods and armor plates. Don't bother with racial suit - it's trash.
If you're new the best suit you can go for is ADV basic - ADV hmg - flux - 2 dmg mods - 1 armor plate and 1 rep. Doesn't matter the tier but higher the better. |

To win with HMG you have to flank. Time-to-kill is low now, so you won't be able to take much concentrated fire before you drop.
Watch where the firefight is happening, then take the other way around the building so that you can attack your enemy from the side or rear. If you can do that, you can kill 2-4 people with the HMG before they can properly respond and kill you back.
Otherwise, play cover games. For some reason I cannot fathom every AR player in the game, even A+ top 50 killboard players, will follow a heavy around a corner to try to get the kill. Do a 180 and mulch them to bits as they come after you.
Pick your battles. Don't ever stand and duke it out in a firefight where you didn't fire the first bullet, unless it's at knife-fighting range. Also: if they haven't seen you, don't fire the first bullet until you're in knife-fighting range.
Use a Battle Segway. Get an LAV, tank it as best you can, put a militia personnel scanner on it, and roll around until you find targets. Hop out and obliterate them at close range.
All of these tactics are based around the ideal of shoving the barrel up your opponent's ass and pulling the trigger. It's the only situation where HMG wins the vast majority of the time.

As for Forge Gun: yes, it's strong. Yes, you'll die less. Yes, it's fattie flavor of the month. (Not much choice, since your only flavors are chocolate or vanilla.) But it's only really useful if you can get to high ground. You need to be good with HMG as well for built-up city style maps. |

Upgrade your Armor and Shield for your character too. Both at Tier V will give 500 HP in each. Then, add your armor plate and armor rep to that. And don't worry about shield mods, just stack damage and rechargers. If you know you'll have a Logi in game to team with you, then trade the rep for another plate.

Don't try to chase people all the time lol. Most good heavies you never know theyre there before youre dead. Once you try to chase people in a slow suit though... I see a lot of heavies that always try to chase, rarely works out for them ttk for everyone is too damn low. Heavies in cars are bastards, and so are heavies on rooftops. Then again both those strategies kind of follow the you don't know theyre there until youre dead theme. |

One more thing, and it's important:
Aim for the shoulders and neck.
The HMG's kick will bring the barrel up to your target's face, giving you a huge helping of headshots. By aiming for the neck, worst case scenario is that your shots hit low in center mass and you just adjust your aim slightly upward to compensate.
When an HMG loses toe-to-toe to an AR, it's usually because the fattie was aiming for the guy's chest, while the AR player aimed higher and got plenty of headshots. Aiming the HMG at the neck balances it out. |

I was going to say pick up an AR and spec into an assault suit. |
