I started a dropship toon today to try out the new tutorial system and because I wanted to fly some dropships. about 3 games in I was starting to get really frustrated with the blue berrys spawning into the ship and not leaving or doing generally dumb things inside and outside the ship. when it ocered to me that you may not know better. here is a list of facts and common courtesy things in dropships.
flying a drop ship is hard, really hard, if I had to rate the hardest professions in dust dropship piloting is probably number one or two on the list. just getting the hang of flying is hard.
1) if you see a friendly pilot attempting to fly around, please don't shoot them, it confuses the pilot and knocks the crap out of the dropship which may cause it to crash.
2) some dropship pilots equip a CRU to their ship allowing teammates to spawn directly into it.
3) if a dropship pilot hovers over an enemy or unclaimed null cannon, cru, or supply depot. please get out of the ship and cap them, for the team.
4) ariel vehicles have their own redline that is much bigger than the infantry redline if you jump out while over the infantry redline your gonna die.
5) if you see the redline warning pop up while riding a dropship DON'T GET OUT you are to far from the infantry readline to make it across before you die. the pilot is propable damaged and waiting for the reps to cycle.
6) we don't need gunners, the guns are just there to look pretty, if we're hovering over an empty capture point get out.
7) we get a transport bonus(wp) for everything you do in a limited time window after you exit the ship, this includes hacks, kills, and revives. so remember if you want to give us a tip just kill someone!
thanks for your time. just doing these few things will make pilots love you, and not think you're an idiot. |

gbghg wrote:I commend you for trying to educate the blueberries, i also commend you for using an MCRU in a public match, your sacrificing survivability to try and help your team, a pity then that no one eve spawns in it, or when they do spawn they never jump out or they just sit on the turrets and shoot every damn turret they can see making them all aggro on you.
I outright refuse to field an MCRU ship in a pub match, i have lost too many ships due to blueberry incompetence, the last in the list being the final straw for me, 600k gone, because an idiot thought it would be fun to shoot a blaster turret, when i was within its optimal range, and right in the middle of its firing arc, with 1/4 shields. surviving academy matches isn't too difficult... plus I still got some moves from my flying time pre chorme |

I see where you are going with number 6 but I put an mcru on mine, it has no ehp and wasn't build to provide close air support. close air support dropships (at least when I build them) have more ehp and no mcru, I take 2 green berries up and we do our thing. |

Fox Gaden wrote:I copied and pasted this into a Corp mail to Immortal Guides. (A perk of having an EVE toon as CEO. ) Since Immortal Guides is a basic training corp and has a membership of over 50 new players, I thought it was probably the audience you were trying to connect to.
Out of 52 new players in the Corp I have only seen 2 of them post on the forums. CCP really needs to add a way to access the Forums from in-game so that more players would see this stuff. you're a good man charlie brown.
since unless pilots are on comms we can't communicate our intentions it is helpful to have blueberries that understand how dropships work and the pilots intentions.
I appreciate the gesture. also get your corp on the forums! it's a great place to lean about the game. |

Judge Rhadamanthus wrote:I think you make some valid points OP. However I think you use "can't" and "Don't" a little to aggressively. I tend to find it's best not to channel people too much. Sometimes we do need gunners, when clearing roof spawns for example or for making enemies in cover panic and step into line of sight of our ground forces. Alos a small turret can easily take out an installation.
And while I get frustrated, I don't think of them as idiots. Perhaps you might think of ways to make your point without using "dont's" or "sad" or "Idiot" as they can seem a bit scary to new players who may worry too much about doing the wrong thing to try and take part as best they know how. noted. |

Blake Kingston wrote:#1, okay, I'm not going to miss out on the chance to potentially down an enemy dropship with a turret by waffling around when you turn up - okay, I see your blue, I'm not doing a second shot, sorry. But if you can't take some wobble, then the swarm launchers are gunna eat you up anyway.
#3. Hovering? When does that happen? I always have to jump out while on the fly! Land at some weird angle...
Finally the CRU ships sound good - then when ten seconds has counted down, they are about ten miles away from the good thing they were at when you hit X. Then they get shot at and start to crash. What?
first I'm talking about intentionally shooting friendly dropships with forges/installs out of boredom or anger or whatever, not accidental shots.
hovering takes time and practice but is perfectly doable.it is likely that new pilots would find it a difficult task as dropships handle like a shoebox on a lake.
again droships take time and practice and are relatively weak. this isn't uncommon with new pilots and even older pilots if they get caught in a bad situation.
however you seem mad at pilots and this is thread is dedicated to educating new passengers in dropships not new dropship pilots. so I think you have the wrong thread.
if you would like to find the answers to your questions first hand feel free to send me a mail when I'm on we'll squad up and I'll buy you a dropship so you can feel first hand how hard it is to fly.
cheers Ko6,
PS thanks for the bump. |

Jrakraa5 wrote:I think they should make it where you can hit a button causing a 15 second timer to go off. in that time all players can jump out or you could cancel it. at the end of it, it ejects all players from the Dropship. flying into infantry redzone also would end the timer. this would make it so you don't have all the blueberries hanging around shooting anything red. this might not work but its a start for new ideas. it's been brought up before, most DS pilots want it, then again most tankers want a blueberry lockout, why don't we have nice things? the world may never know... |
