Hey guys before I start I would like to put in a disclaimer.
I have not read through all the DUST 514 ideas and such, I'm new to the forums, if I stole your idea don't get mad, message me and I will try to credit you. Also many of these ideas come from other games and such, I will mention them as I go. (also sorry if this post is long).
The change would be implementing a better command structure (i'm sure many others have already come up with this idea).
Eve has a solid command structure (FC's, CEO's, directors) . Dust should follow, each game in the player owned corp and faction warfare should have a commander put in place for each team ala Battlefield 2 style.
The commander should be chosen by 1. having trained a leadership type skill 2. having enough war points 3. having enough squad leader points. What he can do with his command will be dependent on how high of a leadership skill he has. I will go into what he could do later.
Squad leaders: First issuing squad orders should be easier, a one click kind of thing. When your squad carries out your orders you gain leadership points which help you get chosen for commander in later games. Squad leaders can train secondary leadership skills which give a slight edge to his squad much in the same way eve leadership skills work. (doctrine squads anyone?)
Major overhaul to faction warfare.
FW in eve is a pretty awesome thing, in dust, not so much let's fix this.
1. You, or your corp, can pick one side, and fight for that one side only (gal and minnies or cal and ammar). 2. Some sort of LP type curacy put int place for fighting hard for your side. (LP stores in Dust should stay racially generic to not cause balance issues). 3. Cut the crap awoxers, if you are fighting for the mil and you go several games in a row without earning any WP you get kicked from the mil. Everyone has bad games, but no one goes game after game eating live grenades killing themselves. 4. Dust/Eve link should be deepened or taken out of the game (boo).
As an Eve player I feel like I go to a lot of work to just give the dust bunnies a slightly better light show. As a Dust player I feel like I'm just bothering my spaceship welding friends to give me a slightly better light show. This needs to be fixed here is my plan.
This kind of thing should only work for FW and player owned corp battles, NPC corp battles should remain DUST only.
First you don't need to earn an orbital strike through WP. Owning the sky should give a distinct advantage to Dust players.
Here is plan: DUST commander calls for help. A constellation wide message is sent to all friendly militia members via new DUST militia chat channel. (yes this channel will be full of spies, but spies bring fights so that's awesome, this chat channel can also be closed for those EVE players that don't give a damn about their planet bound buddies).
Once a mighty EVE capsuleer links with the planet the fun can begin. Here is what the commander can do with an internet spaceship on his side.
Call in orbital strike, placed anywhere on the map, just like it is now. When OS ammo is placed into an EVE turret the cycle time of that gun is increased to five mins. Also every OS the eve player makes causes heat damage to his guns. Taking the Risk/reward aspect into this means larger guns= less heat damage, and shorter cool down of OS. The OS effect remains the same, and doesn't depend of the size of the gun. Eve players can not move, or warp while doing an OS. Eve players gain (very) slight amounts of LP for killing sad little dust bunnies.
Send in the clones: If the Eve player happens to be carrying in his cargo some clone vats the commander may order him to drop them. These clone vats hold 10-20 clones and can serve as s spawn point for dust players. Clone vats will be bought on the EVE market or LP store, but be very cheap. These clone vats have crappy mind linky things so only one can be dropped on a given battle more would disrupt the clone mind links.
Hell jumpers: New skill and new EVE mod. Eve ships can equip a mod that allows them to launch clones into battle via drop pods. This will either take a high slot or mid slot. The commander picks a point for the drops. Then whenever a dust player with the drop pod skill chooses to spawn and an eve player is linked with the battle he may drop in on this point. The number of times he is able to link with the spaceship mod is limited by his skill. Also the clones dropped from this mod are slightly altered to have (slightly) less armor/shield but more movement speed and melee damage. (Maybe they only live for a short amount of time (hell jumper skill would make them last longer) to prevent people from just camping atop unreachable places, hell jumpers are meant to tear the back lines apart not snipe from atop the highest buildings).
Dust defends itself. The defending commander may order controlled NULL cannons to stop firing on the MCC and fire at the EVE player. Ever player starts getting locked and is notified of threat. Missles start to strike soon after. If he doesn't have logi or is in a thinly tanked ship he is in risk of getting popped.
Things commander can do without EVE link. the amount of times he can do this depends on his leadership skill level.
Drop normal supply depots. Suggest squad commands. (this doesn't have a limit) Drop a pimped out (free) ride. Do an anti-vehicle strike.
