Platinum is really dense and strong. Stronger than iron, and as resistant as gold, it is also the best conductive metal, making it quite resistant to electricity. Makes sense to that the Amarr would make armor out of it, especially if they have a large supply of it. Great metal for use in war machines if you can find a large supply of it, which shouldn't be too hard in space. |

Does Platinum have a high melting point as well. I imagine that would play a huge part in Amarr warfare considering they heat their weapons up several thousand degrees. Its melting point is higher than iron, and could likely be increased by alloying it with iridium and carbon, which would also increase its strength even further. |

Let me go get some of my Metallurgical Engineering friends as well, and see how much fun they obtain from this post. I see my mistake. It is the most ductile metal, not the most conductive. But it is fairly conductive anyway, so it is still somewhat resistant to electricity. |

Platinum has a better natural hardness and toughness than iron, not low alloy high strength steels, and not even close to austempered (bainitic) steel. Which had an ultimate strength upwards of 5x, and a hardness that is equivalent or greater by 1/2. "And it being conductive making it resistant to electricity" ...inductance is reciprocal of resistance, you could not be more wrong. Tl;dr Learn to physics/mechanics of materials noob. P.S. - well that escalated quickly.. It isn't the most conductive, I messed up, it is the most ductile. Also a high conductivity wouldn't resist electricity, I worded that wrong, it just wouldn't be damaged by it as easily, which is what counts when you are making spaceship armor, especially when you are fighting the Plasma shooting Gallente. It actually makes so much sense that the Amarr would use platinum or gold to armor their ships and tanks, if you think about their enemies. |
