Hey I was wondering what the pros and cons are for Assault Rifles and Tactical Assault Rifles. I was thinking about skilling Assault Rifle Operation to 4 to use the GLU-5 but should I just stay with the GEK until I have enough SP for a Duvolle? Any help is greatly appreciated. |

Personally i use the glu-5 on my commando and anything i have set for noncqc combat. Having that range is definitely useful, however trying to use it is akin to a sniper rifle. Get too close and you are sentencing your own death. Of course a hefty sidearm makes up for that, but in that case wouldnt you just fit a normal ar? Things to cinsider my friend. |

Depends on your combat style - the TAC is good for mid range combat, whereas the full auto variant isn't good to the same range, but much better at closer ranges. |

The tactical assault rifle (TAR) is a semi automatic version of the Assault Rifle. The TAR has more range (GEK has 40m optimal range while the GLU has a 62m optimal range), higher damage per shot, a lower rate of fire, and a lower clip size to the regular Assault Rifle. Really it depends upon which one you like more. |

If you use aim assist, I would say stick with the Gek. ...because the tactical doesn't seem to benefit from the auto-aim feature. |

BOTH ARE GREAT weapons.
GEK For CQ maps or Mid engagements GLU-5 for larger maps , always play with your best side-arm
Both cost about the same CPU-PG so you can have basically the same loadout, one for long range (Hopefully with AV nades this one) and one for CQ and Med range.
I'd say use both. |

i like both weapons, but I prefer the regular assault rifles. Tacticals are great at distance shooting and semi sniping, but i luv the ease of just holding down the button and letting her rip. Tacticals are fine for me in CQ because I hipfire like a boss , so it all depends on what you plan on doing on the map id say |

This IS a problem BUT: -The Scrambler rifle is better at CQ (somehow) because of its high ROF. -The Scrambler rifle, in its optimal Range will win 99% of he battles vs a TAC ifhe hits the charged shot (Main feature of the Scrambler) -The SR charged shot DOES have more Range than regular ones
ANYHOW, the TAC being a Gallente copy of the SR i insist they should have , AT LEAST , the same optimal range.... |

The charged shot does not have more range. I use the SCR 75% and have never had more range with charged shots. Also AR (All variants) are supposed to be the lowest ranges out of all the racial rifles since they shoot plasma. Also the SCR overheats the TAR doesn't. |

I like to run with a GLU on my logi suit. CQC is usually a death sentence. I ususally use a scanner so I make sure to always keep myself at optimum ranges and go for headshots. One of the biggest perks for the TAC is that despite its smaller clip size you still carry around as much ammo as a regular assault so I never have worry about running out of ammo. It's somewhere between a sniper rifle and an AR, so I can pick at people from long-med range, but the relatively low fire rate means that if HD fails at medium and close range you can expect things to go badly. 1.4 seemed to have near perfect HD with the GLU but since 1.5 I've been having more trouble with it. I'd say go for level 4 and try out the GLU.

Before aim-assist, the TAR was excellent at range. Its recoil is too much these days now that we don't need to put effort into every shot of our weapon. Also, if you're planning on going for a Duvolle anyway, don't bother waiting and just go straight for lvl4. The passive bonus makes a noticeable difference to your GEK. |

Both are good weapons but the regular AR gets tons of points for being easy to use and pretty versatile for most common engagements. The TAC is still powerful in the right hands, I've been outgunned by some really good TAC users and they make CQC with it seem like a breeze, but takes some time getting use to and requires quite a bit of skill as anything past short range requires you use the scope ADS to hit accurately.
Seeing as you're probably still new to the game, I suggest stick with GEK until you get into a comfortable zone where you feel confident in your own ability, then try some new things and expand your arsenal. The Scrambler Rifle is a CQC to mid range version of the TAC. Also quite powerful. |

The scrambler pistol is the only semi-auto that I can think of right now besides the Flaylock. There was a nerf to the rpm of the Tac ARs.
Anyways, the Tac AR is basically a support weapon. If you want a stronger, slower weapon, go for the breach. |

Not sure where i read it here in the forums. SR are supposed to have around 5% more range with charged shot.
The MINMATAR COMBAT RIFLE is supposed to be the weapon with less range, being BLASTERS.
Highest Range: Scrambler (Laser - AMarr) Second Highest: Rail Rifle (Caldari = Burst AR) Second lowest: AR plasma rifles (Gallente) Lowest Range: Combat rifle (Blaster - Matari)
To my understanding this is... |

Exactly. The amount of misinformation is shocking. I feel for people unfamiliar with the Eve lore.
It's also been hinted at that all Gallente weapons will be getting a slight tweak (range in particular) once the Combat rifle and Rail rifles are released. The Gal rifles are keeping the slightly longer ranges until the aforementioned rifles fill those voids.
To answer the OPs question, go for the GLU. The ScR is a worthy alternative as well, as others have stated. Personally, I've left the GEK by the wayside for the GK burst. I prefer the scope to open sights, and I will be moving to the Combat rifle once it's released anyway.
I don't know if this is true or not, but I feel like the GK has a slight range advantage to the GEK. It could just be that I'm a better aim at range with the scope sight over the iron sights though. There was a post somewhere about the ranges and optimals of all the rifles. Probably worth looking up.

Coming from military shooters the AR was the most fimiliar, so thats what I dumped my SP into. Gek/Duvolle = m4 Burst = m16 Breach = AK-47 TAR = FN FAL Or thats the way I see them and use them as such. Burst n TAR med/long range. Gek/Duvolle med/short range. Breach short range. Definitely practice with the glu-5 cuz when u do, upgrade to proto with lvl 5 AR prof and a complex dmg mod and watch the damage u do. I do use the TAR in cqc, took awhile to get used to it but its worth it. It also help to get rapid reload to at least lvl 3 bcuz of the small clip. I also love using the breach (only while holding null cannon control points in cities). The dmg that thing does is unreal. Sometimes I perfer that over the duvolle in cqc |

Someone help me out on that one, but regardless you get like 20 clips with it. |
