Until our server population numbers rise i'm not sure there's an easy answer. There's so much proto in pubs now that the job of the matchmaker is essentially impossible, imo. Tbh, i'm amazed it does as well as it does. About those Proto matches... Maybe they should let us input the value of our equipemt that we would like to commit to the battle, like say i comit 2m ISK to the battle and when i die 10 times in a 150k fit, am left with a maxium of 500k isk left to comit, so i either continue with 3 proto suits or swap to 10 advanced suits. And then Scotty matches ISK Commited vs ISK from the opposing team. Well, if someone's losing 2m a battle in proto gear, they shouldn't be running proto gear. I don't die that often in STD gear. xD I think the bulk of that protogear is being paid for with PC income, so what we get in pubs are the most experienced squads running top-end gear, and they just don't have to care about ISK losses. The squad experience is almost certainly a bigger contributor to the stomping than the gear. The prevalence of protogear is basically the most obvious symptom of a deeper disease. But thinking about this situation is actually a fantastic opportunity to prepare for DUST's future: these disparities in wealth and income are going to be grossly magnified when we connect to EVE. These problems we are discussing need to be solved with that in mind. The punch line is that gamemodes and matchmaking need to be able to accommodate a significant portion of the playerbase who have basically unlimited wealth. This is our chance to get that right before things get really messy.
Geez Vrain, good post and good thoughts. It makes me wonder, with this change to clone prices that FoxFour just announced, how big is this problem, the Planetary Conquest Isk pipeline, for Dust?
If every PC backed proto stomping squad is actually bleeding isk then shutting off that Isk feed will Eventually result in a change of gear levels (presumably) once these players can't afford the hi-end stuff in pub matches.
A player population with enough wealth scarcity might make for more even matchmaking, if gear started to be used in a more fiscally responsible way.
Wow, if this were true then allowing so much wealth disparity into what is still a very juvenille economy seems pretty shortsighted. |
